I was looking for a quality tube amp that would be small enough for an apartment, but big and powerful enough to be used for small venues (and could be given a mic for larger ones). Another important feature was an included footswitch to go between clean and overdrive/distortion at the drop of a hat.The first thing you should know: this amp doesn't have traditional "volume" and "gain" knobs. Instead, it has "crunch" and "overdrive." It took some getting used to in order to get a clean sound and an overdrive sound that were about equal in volume, but it's possible across all volumes... you just need to play with the settings and get used to using the pre-amp settings. The EQ has a nice range to it, and the footswitch is sturdy and rugged.This thing can put out some serious sound. Crank it up all the way, and I could actually see you filling up a good-sized bar without any help. The tones are good both clean and with overdrive. And it's obvious that this is a quality amplifier.Here's where I took a star off: the stock tubes just aren't that good. Thankfully, mine are lasting just fine (keep it unplugged when you're not using it, don't yank out your guitar cable while it's on, don't jostle the amp around a lot, etc.), but they're quite noisy when using the overdrive channel. In fact, even without a guitar plugged in, the hum is very noticeable. I even used a hum eliminator to make sure it wasn't my power. Thankfully, replacing the stock tubes with higher quality ones - and with any tube amp, you will need to replace them eventually - gets rid of it. But that's an additional cost. When you're playing live, it might not be that big a deal, but it drove me nuts.Overall, though, the construction of this amp is downright impressive, and I love the way it sounds .Just be careful with those stock tubes, and be prepared to get used to the settings.

This amp has the best Gain of any amp on the market. I have it on my Splawn 4x12 cab and it is amazing! The clean is very good and bright as well. A $3,500 amp for 20% of the coast/price.
