These are great. Seal 1st time every time. Much better design than those at the "Box Stores".
The bell and socket on these are a great design with a lot of surface engagement.I used to buy them locally, and when I couldn't find any more, I bought what was available at the "box stores". Those were leaky from 1st install. And it's a nightmare to de-solder or cut out the work you just did.I was pleased to find these Elkhart unions on Amazon, so I bought them. They sealed first time so I could complete my repairs. When you look at the design and compare to the others, it's no wonder they work better. The shape and profile of the sealing surface is so much better.

Worked just fine!! Needed to add pipe sealant on threads first.
I had to replace a leaking water shutoff valve. I needed to install a Union in order to get the job completed. Needed to install pipe sealer over the Union threads first, before tightening Union. As you can see by my pics, everything is now just fine!!

Excellent Quality
The copper was high quality and easily cleaned and took solder readily. The fit at the joint is really quite good and they closed securely with no leaks.Pro tip: I usually put a tiny dab of something handy like thread dope, or plumbers grease on the threads so that the big brass tightening nut moves smoothly across the copper case threads so that I get a good snugging without bending on a lot of effort.

Commonly leaks
Micro crack in the properly machined female face, male face is stamped instead of machined and off-center. Could not make it stop leaking and tightening made it worse as micro crack expanded. Would not recommend this 3/4 union. Bought a replacement at Lowes and could barely make it stop leaking - a common problem. Bad design. Superior design would be flat faces, one face having grove and o-ring.

They worked great!
After reading all of the negatives about the big box unions, I decided to purchase these for my water heater installation.They worked great! After turning on the water, I did, however, have to tweak/tighten the cold water union to stop a small drip. I took it a little bit at a time until the drip stopped. You don't want to over tighten these, so I believe it is important to tighten them incrementally.Long story short- The unions work great! I wouldn't hesitate recommending them to a friend.
