How often does it produce berries and what season?  Also about how old is this plant?

I don't know how often it produces berries. I have two plants. One of them I had a few berries in the early spring but now it has given me berries in August and going into September, more buds are coming for fruit. I can't tell how old it is but one of them is just about 2 feet tall. The other plant is about 1 feet 11 inches tall but the 1 feet 11 inches miracle berry plant has given me a few berries when it arrived but it has not flowered or given me any berries since then.  I hope this is helpful. A little bone meal is good for flowering and coffee grinds work well for nitrogen for the plant.

I have a question about water frequency. Basically the plant always has to be wet but it cannot be standing in a saucer of water?

I find that the plant needs to be watered regularly especially if the plant is outside. Use spring water or rain water instead of tap water. It needs to be wet but you are correct don't let it sit in a saucer of water. I just repotted mines with a mixture of peat moss, perlite, coffee grinds, bone meal, top soil, a small amount of pine needles, and compost. It was done on yesterday and it seems to be picking up. I've also have been leaving it outside in the pot but not directly in the sun maybe a couple of hours 2-3 hours in the sun instead of leaving inside the house and one of them seems to be producing small buds. Also if yours are in a pot inside bring it outside when it rains that can help it to stay moist like the tropics and the leaves also can receive some moisture as well. It can get a little dry at times but when you notice it dry by feeling the soil then you water it. But don't let it dry to the point of drought. Coffee grinds also keep the potting mixture stay acidic and I believe I read the coffee grinds are good for the soil mixture. I live in zone 6 Massachusetts so after the summer I will have to bring my plant inside.  Peat moss and an acidic soil mixture with perlite for drainage is good for your potting mix. I use more peat moss than the top soil and plenty of perlite for drainage, although you could use the regular potting soil too. Top soil works just as good for potting plants if you add other nutrients in it as well.   I hope this is helpful to you.

Will this plant grow in mircale grow potting soil? I seem to recall there is a formulation especially for "trees and shrubs".

Accepted Answer

No. It needs a special acidic soil mix. Buy an azalea mix from a nursery. Miracle grow is not an acidic mix.

what type of growing light should i use for this plant?

I use stock LED growing bulbs from Amazon.  I put them each in a clamp-on reflector bulb holder and clamp them to nearby poles.  They have several models available and I see no significant difference.  I fertilize my plants occassionally with an acidifier fertilizer and a little bone meal.  It may take a year or 2 to get first fruit.
