Mermaids - Calm Ocean Coloring Collection (Fantasy Coloring by Selina)

Although Selina's books are called "adult coloring books" I bought this one along with 4 others (5 total) as Christmas gifts for my 7 year old who is very creative & artistic. I wanted something to inspire & challenge her more bc she & I both agree that kids coloring books are pretty much all the same cartoons with no vision. After receiving the books and reviewing them to make sure they would be appropriate, which they absolutely are, I found them to be absolutely beautiful & the perfect gift for her. When she opened them on Christmas she fell absolutely in love with them, and even better is that they have inspired her. Not only does she love learning how to color them like an adult artist (with blending, contouring, shading, ect.), but Selina has inspired & challenged her to learn how to create on a higher level with her own drawings, paintings, and so forth. I also love her coloring in Selina's books. I suffer from many health issues, and so I have found that whenever I get stressed or anxious I ask my daughter if I can color in one of her books (which she always says yes). I have found a new outlet coloring her beautiful drawings. They help me relax and clear my mind of whatever is happening within and around me. An even better thing about Selina's books is that there are 2 of every drawings in each book so my daughter & I can color the same picture together yet separately when we want and see how different yet beautiful we can color them.

I love how these images have enough diversity in face type to apply to my project! I am working on turning the women in my family into mermaids, and as a multi National, multi lingual family this book works perfectly for that. The duplicates are so considerate, because I’m definitely not an artist. Thank youuuu for this gorgeous book. Ps. I don’t usually post reviews but this is about À COLORING BOOK. hahaha

This coloring book is fantastic! I tend to get overwhelmed by coloring books that are ridiculously intricate, but not challenged enough with simpler coloring books. This coloring book is truly a happy medium. I love the fact that this coloring book includes two prints of all the pictures, allowing the colorer to make new choices on the same art....very smart. I could even see this being a great feature for a parent and child (or even friends) to color the same picture together. The art itself is beautiful and incredibly fun to color....I mean seriously, who doesn't want to color mystical mermaids with an Art Nouveau vibe? The pages are nice, but probably not thick enough to use marker or light watercolor without removing the page to avoid bleed through. I've only been using color pencils so far and the paper really grabs the pigment, unlike some coloring books I have that end up making the colors much too light. I'm really happy I decided to purchase and I've been coloring in it since I opened it. You're never too old to color! I'm 32 and I find it very meditative and creatively stimulating, especially when you want to do something creative but don't have the time or mindset to create something from scratch. I'd definitely repurchase in the future for myself or as a gift!

I do not have a lot of experience with mermaid art and found this book quite charming. There are three pictures featuring motherhood, including a very pregnant mermaid, all three are charming. There is also a non-mermaid picture of a selkie! Even an angel was snuck in. The pirate and bathtub mermaids are at the top for my favorites. I have no problem with the paper quality, maybe the print I received had improved paper based on previous complaints. I have no problems with the picture covering the entire page with not blank border, but that is my personal preference. I may disassemble the book with an exacto knife to have full access of the pages. I do not mind the duplicates, as I enjoy recoloring the same page at a later time. Duplicates are also great for trading coloring pages with another adult who shares the same interest. Extra pages are also good to tuck in as surprises when creating packages of goodies for trade or surpse.

I am so in love with this book. I had colored some of her art before, from her website, and didn't put it together that she was the illustrator for this coloring book. It is absolutely beautiful and I love that there are two copies of each picture in case I screw one up. I started coloring the pirate mermaid last night and it is turning out prettier than I expected. The pictures are a mixture of styles, although there are a bunch of art nouveau ones. If I had known that, I would have probably bought this book sooner. Art nouveau is my favorite style of art and I search for art nouveau coloring books pretty frequently. I love the pregnant mermaid and the ones with babies, they are really representative of the femininity I associate with mermaids. I'm going to have to get a couple more copies of this book for my mom and my best friend. They will love it too.

I love the art, some of the lines of the pictures are weird and it makes you wonder if a certain line if the mermaids body or hair because it may be covered by another object, but it makes you get creative! I used markers for my first and only completed picture and it bled through a little, I started another one with colored pencils and it looks ok but not real dark. I think it needs a solid surface to work to help with that, I was just coloring it in the book. I think I might try gel pens. I also wish the pages were perforated as it is hard to remove them from the book without ripping. It needs scissors.

Sono diventata una fan di Selina Fenech; come per Enchanted anche qui si viene trasportati in un'altra dimensione. E' quasi incredibile la capacità di immaginazione di questa illustratrice. Il tratto è estremamente elegante e mai banale. L'album è fatto molto bene: formato A4, ci sono due copie per ogni illustrazione, un disegno per ogni foglio e la carta non è troppo sottile. Perfetto per le matite colorate, non credo sia adatto ad altre tecniche come tempere, acrilici o pennarelli.

While I'm a fan of adult coloring books, I'd never heard of Selina Fenech and I have to admit I previously glanced at this book and from the cover decided it wasn't for me. However, the old adage holds true, don't judge a book by it's cover. After seeing a pair of beautifully colored swimming mermaids on one of my coloring forums, the colorer directed me to this book again! So I took a second look and ordered it. The lineart may seem simple and plain (and it's lacking repetitive gimmicks like Mandalas) but that's were this book shines. You can get creative with the coloring and the shading, creating lighting sources and really practising the art of color. This coloring book also features a huge variety! Unlike some coloring books I've used, patterns are not repeated and the art isn't reused again and again. Each page is a unique mermaid, with many I've never seen portrayed before. There's a pregnant mermaid and a momma mermaid, even a mermaid with an angel! If you like mermaids, your gonna love this book. Something that took me aback a little was the realisation that after the first set of drawing, there is a repeat of those drawings. I was worried this meant way less to color, but actually, with the original designs the book is plenty full. Having a copy of them at the back simply means you can split this book between two people. Or take another crack at the designs in a different color! Pros: - Each design appears twice allowing for different styles of coloring, more than one person, or restarting in the case of a mistake. - Unique mermaid designs and illustrations! - Simple lineart allows great creativity. - Simply beautiful. - Each design has a page to itself so you don't have to worry about leaning too heavy or the ink bleeding through the back. Cons: - Could be tricky for beginners as it gives a lot of freedom. I was surprised greatly, because this is now one of my favourite adult coloring books.

Ce livre de coloriage, qui a pour thème les sirènes, est juste magnifique! Les dessins sont variés, féeriques, et la qualité du papier est bonne. Il y a 25 illustrations de format A4 qui sont toutes en double exemplaire, et le verso des feuilles est blanc, ce qui laisse la possibilité d'utiliser tous types de matériaux (crayons, feutres, pastels, etc.).

Wunderschönes Malbuch - gerade bei Malvorlagen mit menschlichen Vorlagen (im Sinne von Gesichtern) ist es schwierig, schöne Bilder zu finden, denn die meisten sehen durch die bloßen Umrisse einfach nicht sehr ansprechend aus. Anders dieses Buch. Und ein weiteres Plus ist, das jedes Bild doppelt vorhanden ist, UND die Seiten nicht auf Vorder - und Rückseite bedruckt sind. Das ist bei manchen Erwachsenenmalbuchern wirklich eine echte Fehlplanung, nämlich immer dann wenn die Seiten nicht dick genug sind, um Filzstifte auszuhalten...ich möchte eben nicht immer nur mit Buntstiften malen!!! Des weiteren bietet dieses Buch eben die Möglichkeit, jedes Motiv einmal aufzubewahren, falls man es vielleicht kopieren möchte. Man rennt schließlich nicht mit jedem Malbuch erstmal in einen Copyshop, um alle Motive die man evtl. noch einmal ausmalen möchte, durchzukopieren... Also, 5 Sterne für dieses durchdachte Malbuch für groß und klein!
