Do I need to get a bleed spacer separately? Do I really need to detach the caliper?

The caliper can remain attached, wheel removal gives better access and avoids rotor contamination. The spacer is to prevent caliper pistons from being pushed out and can be any firm material. Nylon tire levers can work.
