Excellent Product, well shipped and packed . Had it in 2 days .
Recieved yesterday, was pleased with what I opened after all the bad reviews about these things , payed extra 15 bucks , 115 for it and took a chance . Glad did , parts are chromed and painted, came set up with fishing line and sample piece under foot . Was a little oily but wiped down easy no big mess like some talk about . Extra bobbins and parts . Works smooth, I bet sews like it should as already has proved it . Legs seem ok but we will see before go to trouble mounting on wood . Not got going be set up all the time anyway. so comes apart and will pack up . Packing was great , no busted up styrofoam or damaged box . Hand crank was crome also . Happy Customer.

Great Machine, missing pieces.
Let me start by saying that this is a great manual machine. I received the machine earlier this week and it was packaged very well. The instructions are not very user friendly if you are not mechanically inclined but the machine is simple enough that most people should be able to figure it out. The fit and finish leave a little to be desired but it is nothing that will stop the machine from performing as it should. The tension spring on the bobbin carrier however will stop the machine from seeing correctly. The one I received came with a spring that was broken in half. The piece that was still screwed onto the carrier was jagged and would just cut the thread as it tried to feed from the bobbin. How would I go about ordering replacement parts for this machine?

Expect to rework out of the box. Good solid unit otherwise
These units are sold by a number of sellers on Amazon and competing sites. Overall finish quality is relatively poor but if you are willing to do some work yourself, they are a great value. Packaging: outer shipping box is substantial but the Chinese can’t seem to make durable styrene cushioning. The large cell expanded styrene falls apart in shipping, especially with heavy cast iron product. I had to straighten a couple of bent components as a result. OUT OF THE BOX In my case, the machine had been properly assembled and tested (sample leatherette stitched example under the presser foot) and worked out of the box. FIT & FINISH In general the chrome plating quality is poor with much peeling, missed spots (contaminated surface not prepped) and uneven. Lots of rough edges required filing and graduated sanding to 600 grit to prevent leather marring. (See photo of screw head that had to be smoothed) The spool post would not support a large spool of thread so I fabricated a circular base plate and cut and drilled a piece of dowel stock to make that work (see photos of spool & dowel). MAJOR DEFECTS BIGGEST problem was the incorrect bobbin winder position and spindle diameter. Required rework of stamped metal bobbin winder base. I welded an custom fit a small piece of 0.034” steel to allow for placement of pivot hole so bobbin winding tire would contact the drive wheel. Also added inner tube rubber to the drive wheel to improve function (bobbin tire slipped on chromed drive wheel surface). Used contact cement to affix rubber to steel. (SEE PHOTOS. Pencil point shows original hole location and another with plate screwed in to hole in proper position to allow bobbin to contact drive wheel) DESIGN As others have said, the base and legs are wimpy but will get you started. See multiple YouTube vids for operation, threading, problem fixes and improvements to these machines. The consistent complaint is inconsistent QA. This 100 year old design can be made into a beast fully capable of sewing any canvas, fabric or leather you can get under the presser foot for 20% of the cost of brands that are truly ready to go. CONCLUSION: Buy this only if you are able and willing to spend several hours tinkering.

Stay away. Waste of time. Junk.
Wow! Where to start. Now this is NOT a review of the seller as I ordered and received product as normal via Amazon. Also note the stitcher was still packaged in the original box from China with a new shipping label applied for my purchase. I assume the seller opened the package to insert the leaflet with request for 5 star reviews. Now to the machine itself - junk. It’s metal is so poor the machine pieces were chipping away leaving razor sharp edges in the casting. The machine is covered in shipping oil which appears to be and smells of diesel fuel. The fit of pieces is so poor the machine could not move. The hearing inside the bobbin arm (straight tooth bar turns bobbin) was chipping away at casting. The flywheel crank was heavily damaged and the handle was bent into the crank. Even removing and fabricating my own didn’t help. It does come with a large spook of very cheap black thread, 3-4 bobbins, extra bobbin case, needles (unk #), very basic tools, and a piece of sample leather. I find it impossible to believe the leather sample was created with this machine as it would not function. I cannot speak to the ability of this machine as it did not function at all. Stay away. Please read many reviews before making purchase. While you may receive a serviceable unit according to most reviews (not just Amazon) it is rare.

This thing is totally worth it if you’re willing to put in the work!
I’ve had this sewing machine for 2 1/2 years. This thing is so awesome for someone that doesn’t want to spend a fortune on an automatic sewing machine. The stand is useless, so you need to build a solid heavy table for it to mount to. I’d also recommend a wood holder that is removable for the bottom arm of the machine. That prevents it from pivoting over time. You need it to be removable for when you sew shoes or bags so they can slip all the way up the arm. When you get your machine make sure to sand down all the rough edges and really buff the thing with a rag. Getting the tension and timing right at first is awful, but overtime I promise it gets easier. There are lots of amazing YouTube videos out there to help you. I broke bearings in mine by trying to force the needle into a project. So I had to take the entire thing apart and source out the right pieces. Now it works like a charm. It is incredibly picky and hard to deal with, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything given the price. It doesn’t sew a thick beautiful line like a tradition leather sewing machine. The thread you use is a bit thinner so you have to do two passes. It looks fine as long as you’re precise and match up the holes. It’s a machine that you have to spend a lot of time with it. You have to learn everything about it and really become a master at it. If you’re willing to do that, then buy this machine!!

Great Hobbist Leather Sewing machine, with some elbow grease
To frame this review, no one should buy one of these believing it is the equivalent of a $1400+ leather sewing machine, it is not. but for ~$120 you get a capable manual sewing machine, that is light enough to be portable, doesnt need power and will make a simple consistent lock stitch. So if your goal is to reduce the amount of hand stitching you need to do on everyday projects, this will get it done. It is important to note that this "should" work out of the box and there is test patch with stiches loaded in it to show it test stitched once, to get it truly useable there are a few things you should do, get proper leather needles and thread, built your own string spool holder, a wood base (the tripod its included with is trash), clean it thoroughly (soaked in grease), sand off all the casting burs, make sure your cam timing is right, check needle throw (mine was dropping too far), etc. there are plenty of DIY videos on these out there and it would behoove you to go research it a bit. Took me about 3 hours start to finish to get it running correctly, and there are still optimizations I need to make, but once you get it running smoothly though it just goes. Now with this exact product I received I was impressed with the green powdercoat was nicer than I expected and it came with alot of little extras, needles, a thread fish wire, some replacement parts, 4 bobbins and a whole spool of good black thread (not labeled so I dont know its weight), and usable instructions that even direct you to instruction videos. overall better than expected. TLDR: Good, simple leather sewing machine if you are willing to put in some effort to smooth out its imperfections.

Nicer Version Received Of This China Patcher Compared To Others
OK, I bought from this seller because they ship to my overseas location via Amazon. I've seen a ton of youtube videos on these patchers and even joined a Facebook group as well as reading the blogs. I also have a Singer 29k copy from china that was off Amazon and much much more expensive. The typical youtube videos talk about having to remove cosmolene preservative grease, sand out the poor castings, etc. This machine came with chrome plating on the parts that others had rough and they were smooth. Other machines have cast iron hole for the main shaft or open bearings. Tit his machine came with sealed bearings but still the typical cast iron piece on the other end. It had the needle bar knocked out of adjustment so i adjusted it for an industrial 135x17 needle. It sews great and is easy to operate. It is a good machine for mechanically inclined or those who are willing to study and learn. I cannot guarantee anybody else receiving one just as nice but I am happy. We will be doing a custom stand for this soon. I've only sewn ticket 30 thread and a size 19 needle to this point and it works fine. The thread that comes with the machine as others have noted is not high quality by any means. I immediately switched to a cone of Coats Astra Poly thread that is gold colored jeans thread before I was able to get good results. As long as seller ships same machine as what I got it is highly recommended If seller starts sub'ing poorer quality versions buyer beware. Best regards, Mike

Wasn't as shown.
I watched a lot of videos, this particular machine only came with 1 tension adjustment, which I understand you need 2 if you are using thinner thread, and 1 if you are using very thick threads- the photo from this vendor showed 2. This isn't a deal breaker. However, what I found to be a huge problem is that this may have been a return! The machine was covered in grease, and there was machine oil floating in the bag. A complete mess! The parts were not all together, like they were just thrown in so that they would fit in the styrofoam. Even after this, cleaning it and finally getting it together, nothing would make it sew correctly. The top stitches would sew fine for a few and then start looping, the same was for the bobbin thread. One long line of periodic loops on the top and bottom. I understand many have to do adjustments, and we work on all of the know fixes and still, it remains the same. We had to throw the box out along with the instructions as they were drenched in oil. I'm disappointed, especially that I paid almost double than another site to get it faster, through Amazon. Don't expect these machines to be running like a 1000 dollar machine out of the box. You should expect to do some tinkering. I got another one, from a different vendor, and after a couple of adjustments it is sewing fine. The biggest difference, the other machine was clean right out of the bag. If you do decide to buy from here. Check the machine before you take it inside. If it's nasty and you know it will have to be cleaned. I would send it back! No I did not contact the seller. I threw the box out before realizing they all don't come this way, and it was to late to recover it to send it back.
