Can you operate forward and reverse, as to maintain muscle balance.

Yes, you can pedal in reverse. However I have not done that with this trainer because I believe the instructions warns that the pedals might come off if you pedal in reverse. Before I got this trainer I had a recumbent bike that I pedaled in reverse and one pedal was always coming off and interrupting my workout. That was annoying so I don't pedal in reverse on this one and I don't have the piece that keeps the pedal on while pedaling in reverse.

Question 2

I will be using this as only an arm cycle strictly to lose weight. Has anyone actually sincerely found they've lost weight w/o any other cardio?

Yes....I have lost weight with this primarily. I use it on max resistance for about 60 minutes or more 5 or 6 days a week. Im in a wheelchair permanently and this is the best way to get cardio. I have also cut out most carbs and most sugar(including fruit) out of my diet. I have lost about 20 lbs thus far. Light shoulder and arm weight training will aid in the soreness and strength for long uses.

Question 3

What advantages does MagnaTrainer have compared with DeskCycle?  The latter can be placed under a desk.  Why would I buy MagnaTrainer?

Hello Ira, I have no knowledge of DeskCycle and I'm in a wheelchair without the use of my legs; so, I can't respond to questions regarding under desk features. What I can speak to is the MagneTrainer should fit under a desk easily, too. If you prefer the smoothness of the magnets creating the resistance in the MagneTrainer over other products with a nylon webbed strap pulling across the internal spinning wheel of other models, then I'd suggest MagneTrainer for you too. Is this good for an intense workout like a hiit? or is this just meant for therapy or medium/low intensity cycling?
