Small Radio Control Boats

A good basic introduction
Well known for his simplified model boats that have appeared for years in British magazines, author Glynn Guest has written an excellent, if basic, introduction to the subject. You will not find extensive information on research and detailing in this volume. It is intended to be an introduction to the world of scratchbuilding small working boats out of common materials found at any hobby shop. The boats are simplified renditions of common maritime subjects - tugs, lifeboats, and small naval subjects. All are based on Guest's system of box construction out of balsa, which allows fast building and strong results. He also covers the rudiments of radio control models - from propellers to motors to the radio itself. The models are also very suitable to free running for those who do not wish to make the financial commitment to radio control.Clear text and page after page of detailed plans are this books strengths, and make it worth the purchase price. The photography ranges from adequate to very poor, however; even the cover shot is blurry. While advanced ship and boat modelers will not get a lot out of this book, those starting out will find it an invaluable primer on the subject which will quickly lead to a nice looking working model.Kurt GreinerSeaPhoto Maritime Photography

A good book for model crafters
This is a very good book for people who want to build boats from scratch. There are very good diagrams and pictures of finished products. I will try to make some of them and I think that the book will be a wonderful informative guide for that purpose. However, the title is "Small RADIO CONTROL Boats" and it falls sadly short in the area of Radio Control.I was hoping for more info on the electronics. I'm looking to learn more about the radio controls. In that way, I am rather disappointed.

Not about Radios for model boats
The book is really about building model boats, the section on radio control is very limited and not overly helpful. The title is misleading.

A Bit Disappointing for my purposes
The book was delivered promptly and well packaged. It did not really fulfil my expectations. I wanted a book which took a novice radio control model boat builder through the necessary stages in construction, motorization and radio control installation in general rather than a a very brief general introduction followed by a guide on building specific subjects from scratch.

Small radio control boats
This book is very good for the young novice. It starts them off with most of what they need to know. My grandson is delighted with it and is building the tugboat. OK its not postgraduate but on the other hand there is a dearth of up-to-date books about RC boats. I have yet to find one which adequately covers 2.4GHz!

I wouldnt bother with it.
Very thin book, has little more than a few basic boat plans in it, even those are only 'loosely' based on their real counterparts. You can get better plans for free off the internet or in boat magazines. Also has a very small section on motors and R/C gear. Sent mine back, very unimpressed.

Small Radio Control Boats
I have almost read the words off of the page but I still find it useful and every now and again go through it.
