Guitar Lessons for Beginners: A Comprehensive Beginner's Guide to Learn the Basics of Guitar Chords and Notes

While the book seems adequate for learning guitar, you typically want to follow along with a book while you are learning to play. This book is small, font is really small and hard to distinguish notes on the tiny scale in the book. And, it won’t stay open. I had to give up on this book- stick with a full size copy- have a Mel Bay book now that’s phenomenal, is full size and easy to follow.

TThis book is apparently intended as an introduction to guitar. However, it has many flaws of which the most important is that it is unreadable. I don’t have any problem with people who either can’t write English and/or who doesn’t know the guitar. But please don’t write books about playing guitar if that’s you. The book is written in an awkward style with no relation to standard English grammar. For example: “The choice of finger positioning should be in favor of your comfortability”. Come again? Or how about “The second diagram shows that the second finger is placed on the fourth string which is located at the second fret”. And if you do that at full moon, you get three wishes and a funny hat! In addition, the book is disorganized. For example, when introduced to the A chord, the reader is encouraged to learn it by first playing Asus2 – whoever knows what that is most likely don’t need an introduction to the A chord. I’m not sure what all the 5 star reviews are about but the correlation of the grammar in the book and the positive reviews are a bit odd. If you know what I mean.

This book has really helped me improve my playing. I think anyone would benefit from checking it out. The lessons are super clear and educational. Thanks to Jamie for sending me to this book. I have already seen improvement in a couple days.

Not impressed there are a lot better beginner books out there

While this book starts out for the beginner, it moves quickly and, IMHO, delves into standard notation reading concepts that may frustrate the reader.

Somewhere in the middle of the book it got a little confusing as it talks about pentatonics before the actual chapter on pentatonics is discussed.
