Interesting
This book provides an interesting insight into life as I also knew it. Unfortunately for an educated woman this book is stilted and could have been written in a much better style. It needs a large amount of editing and re-writing in a style which would more effectively portray the wealth of memories shared relevant to those of us of a similar generation.

What remains
Kill has written her autobiography with insight into the factors that shaped her life as well as that of her parents. She grew up in the 40's and 50's in suburbia of Australia, faintly recognizing unfulfilled talents in the arts. She settled for a time the expectations of her times, but with good insight she recognized needs unmet and talents undeveloped in her younger years with a remarkable lack of resentment. She notes that one can only do their best. Interesting sociological narrative.

Enjoyable
This story was about a girl growing up in Australia during 40s and 50s. It told a great deal about the opportunities and lack of opportunities for women at that time. It was easy reading and left me better that before I read it.

What an amazing work, so insightful to what people in Sydney ...
What an amazing work, so insightful to what people in Sydney were like during this time of post WWII and the struggle of an intelligent young woman to find her way in that society when women were not necessarily expected to go to college. Beautifully written, easy to read and a wonderful insight into the kind, generous and forgiving woman that Jill is.

Not recommended..
It was okay, but rather bland. All the grammar mistakes and use of the wrong word made it hard to read.

Life in Australia in the middle of the 20th Century.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book because this is the time when I grew up. The author tells what her life was like growing up in Australia. Even though we grew up in different countries, the time line was the same. And, many of our experiences were similar or the same. It is a beautiful story about a time that is different from today.

Australia
I bought this book hoping to learn about Australia but instead learned about the Australian mindset. This was an interesting biography of an author who was on a journey to find herself which she eventually did.
