I loved this book!
The Art of Disappearing is fun and fast-paced book - I'm not a young adult but am curious about the genre, and so I picked this up; I inhaled it in two sittings. It's a haunting story that will speak to any readers who believe that there is more to the world than what we experience with our first five senses. Anyone who's ever had a lucid dream or moment of inexplicable intuition. I love strong characters, and the ones Perez has crafted -- particularly Delia, our protagonist -- will stay with you long after you finish reading. They're complex, quirky, and real - and you'll appreciate them, flaws and all. I look forward to reading more from this gifted and original writer.

Couldn't stop reading
Loved loved this book! So good. I was desperate to read something good after a terrible airport book bogged me down. Hubby said "read Elena's book". I did and couldn't stop.Just goes to show you that you can find diamonds in the rough and you can't trust the books in airport stores. What was really cool was how I related to Delia even though I am way older. It definitely reminded me of how it feels to be figuring yourself and your friends out. Her psychic abilities were developed and shown in a really realistic light and I loved the mysteries and how they unfolded.Airport book took me 10 weeks to read. Art of Disappearing = less than 1. My big problem is what can I read next that will hold up? Elena you have to write another! I would start another Elena Perez novel this minute if I could.

Waiting for the Sequel!
Wonderful. A very well written easy flowing story that caused me to stay up too late a few nights! I truly connected with Delia as she brought me back to memories of high school - and reminded me why I really would not want to go back again (however I may consider it if I could try her gift for a bit with a little knowledge). I very comfortably handed the Kindle over to my 12 year old son and said - "I really think you will enjoy this". I truly look forward to buying some black nail polish and curling up on the couch with the next volume (hint hint to Ms. Perez!).

Great debut from Elena Perez
Just finished this compelling read. Couldn't put it down, and it definitely left me wanting more. I hope Elena Perez writes a sequel at some point soon. It's been some time since I've been in high school, but Elena's character's were extremely relatable. The suspense in the story kept me guessing, and I'm fairly certain I spend about an hour longer than I should have during my lunch break in order to finish this wonderful novel.

A great ending!
Best Bits: I really liked how this one ended. It was a very understated, non-cliffhanger ending (so refreshing!). Even if this is the start to a series, I'm just so grateful that it didn't feel like 'Book 1 in the ______ series.' How often does that happen these day? It says quite a bit about Perez's style that after everything had basically wrapped itself up I was still interested how Delia is dealing with her abilities. I also liked that the mystery in the book was creepy without being too dramatic. I will say that the book focused more on friendships than it did on supernatural powers, but I didn't mind. It showed how hard it was for Delia when there was an adjustment to the hierarchy of the popular girls in school. Plus, it also has a great depiction about how jealousy and feelings of worthlessness can lead to bad friendships. It just takes Delia some time to figure out who her friends are, and what she really wants from them.Nit Picks: The reader doesn't get a lot of background on Delia's powers. I suppose that's realistic, but there were a couple of things that weren't explained enough for me to be fully satisfied. The book also uses the word "retarded." It's only used once, but it's a word that I really detest. So, that pulled me directly out of the story.

Great summer read...I couldn't put it down.
I really enjoyed this book. It's the story of a girl, Delia, who is just finding out that she has psychic abilities and how she deals with this new talent (or curse?) and all that comes with it. The author's portrayal of life in highschool was spot on - the outcasts, the mean girls, the ups and downs of friendships, the humor and angst - it was all totally relatable and well-written. The storyline builds in mystery and it makes you want to keep turning the pages to find out what happens. Now that I've finished reading it, I hope the story continues with another book. I really liked Delia and want to find out how she develops her psychic skills.

Page turner
The high school struggle of trying to "fit in" yet realize one's own identity is beautifully portrayed in this debut YA novel. The story is fluid and captivating, drawing the reader into Delia's world from the start, making the book hard to put down. (Just one more chapter and I'll go to bed, eat dinner, answer my pleading child's calls... lol) All in all a great read for both YA and adults alike. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
