The Alpina Alaska 75mm Backcountry Boot is bold, strong, and no-nonsense. Alpina modeled it on a burly hiking boot, with a tough leather and synthetic upper that protects your foot from the elements and endows the boot with a moderately stiff flex for plenty of control, uphill and down. For extra protection, it integrated a waterproof and breathable Alpitex membrane into the boot, so extended tours won't leave your feet soaked and also included Thinsulate insulation to keep your toes warm when you're making your way through wild woods, up steep hills, and across untracked fields. The Vibram sole provides a solid and fairly stiff platform for increased control of wider, heavier skis, and the anatomic footbed supports your arch for serious comfort when you're spending the whole day on the move.

Not Great to Drive Fatter Skis
These may compare favorably with other soft boots. I learned I just don't like soft boots. I routinely wear Scarpa T3 hard boots that are light, comfortable and provide superior control and sure don't seem to hold me back when skiing uphill. I bought these for venues that have less climbing (and hence less aggressive descents) where I pair them a lighter ski as well. They're ok and work well with a nice solid Voile binding. They are warm and comfortable but probably an unnecessary purchase since I'm gonna stick with my old Scarpa T3s.I like hard boots and fat skis, I love and rely on the power and control they give me. These soft boots can't drive a fat ski nearly as well as a hard boot. I see a lot of people wearing them and doing well, so it's just a preference thing.

therefore this product was a waste of my hard earned money
The 3-pin tongue blew out after using them for less than three months on cross country ski trails. They are still under warranty but Alpina, Live to Play, and Amazon would not deal with the return. Alpina stated the damage was under warranty but none of the entities involved would step up to the plate, therefore this product was a waste of my hard earned money.

Great touring boot
This is a great boot for touring and covering distance, good out of the box comfort with excellent control for Telemark or parallel turning. I bought these to go with Fisher S-bound 98, no-wax skis, mostly for long distance light touring with occasional down-hill skiing. I have been very happy with these, way more comfortable than any of my plastic boots I use for AT skiing. Not recommended for all day lift service skiing.

Would give more stars if they lasted longer
With less than five months use they split behind the pins. Update...after contacting the manufacturer they agreed to warranty.Loved the boots just wish they lasted longer
