Shadows

Lenka slows it down a few notches and it works! I was expecting more of the clever upbeat pop sound Lenka served up on TWO.With Lenka the more you listen the more you're rewarded. That really holds true for SHADOWS, the repeated listens I've had have revealed a hypnotic smooth groove that sent me on a pleasure trip with Lenka's clear,moving vocals. Songs unfold more of their treasures, MONSTERS a sad lament of love ending with a whole in Lenka's heart. Lenka makes me feel every emotion she endures, the refrain "We've got nothing but the rain" lingers in my head long after the song ends. Every song has it's own magic. If you have any Lenka in your collection and even if you don't, I have a feeling SHADOWS could steal your ears & win your heart. You'll want to revisit SHADOWS quite often. Excuse me while I take another trip into the world of SHADOWS that Lenka has weaved, it puts a smile on my face.

The songs on Lenka's first two albums were immediately catchy, bright and shiny pop gems. The songs on Shadows don't immediately sparkle and grab you like that. These songs, rather, take time to be appreciated. But they certainly grow on you with repeated listens. At first I wasn't sure what I thought of the album but I can honestly say that it's my favorite Lenka album now. There really isn't a bad song on it. Very subtle, intoxicating stuff.

I am admittedly biased because I have yet to meet a lenka album I don't like but this was a great buy. I didn't know any of the songs/ singles from this album before I bought it so it did take listening to it a couple of times before I really got into it but now I love it. Honeybee and Monsters are hands down my favorites.

Another great pop album from Lenka. She takes obvious inspiration from being a mother. This often results in a mellower tone, with some songs taking on a lullaby-like quality. The best experience is listening to the album from beginning to end. Although I have favorite songs, I won't mention them here because they won't have the same quality if listened to as singles on a playlist. For the lower price of this album, just get the whole thing. It probably won't get much play on the dance floor. It will get much play in the home, which is where Lenka is with her life right now. I'm glad she invited us along.

I already have Lenka's other two albums so I was looking forward to this, and I wasn't disappointed. This one is perhaps a bit slower and quieter in places, but it is still quintessentially Lenka. Lovely voice, thoughtful, meaningful lyrics, complex melodies. She has a deceptively simple and sweet, girlish sound (even though she has fans of all ages, male and female), but there are also hidden depths. My favourite songs are Bring Your Heart to the Party, and Nothing Here But Love. Play it a few times to let it sink in, and like all her music, it will grow on you more and more.

The CD was purchased based on what a few of my friends had said about the CD. After listening to it I found the music to by quite a delight.

Lenka has always had a great sound. This album has a slower pace than the other two, but it is very mellow and smooth. Typical Lenka, easily digested.
