This thing is GREAT!!!
I bought this item to use with a rented engine hoist for a transmission install. Best 30 something dollars I've ever spent!!! This thing saved me tons of time and frustration. It was as easy as a turn of a handle to get a CVT lined up perfectly with the engine. God tier tool. Build quality is decent and for a do it yourselfer like me its more then adequate. I cant compare it to another one because this is the only engine leveler I've ever used, but it worked better then I could have even hoped for. I have used Torin jacks and jack stands before, but this is the first item from their "big red" line I've purchased. As long as its kept dry and lubricated there's really nothing that can fail. I'm not sure what else to say except if you're doing an engine or transmission that needs to be lined up for installation, this equipment is a must have.

Good for the price
This is a great upgrade to my old Northern Tool leveler. The adjusting rod is far beefier and the adjustable position on the main bar is great. I do not like hoe the main bar, the red one, is loose fitting. It wobbles easily and is nothing like my old one, where it is made of steel square tube. I would have liked to see maybe some steel bushings on the sides to stop this, but that goes against the lowest cost possible to produce. This is something I plan on modifying (adding bushings) to resolve this issue. I dislike the possibility of an unexpected slip that can stress the parts, which can lead to an unexpected failure, although unlikely. I also dislike the mounting of the chains to the main bar. The shackles are sloppy on the main bar, with a lot of movement to each side. This again I would like to see more support to prevent unexpected slipping and movement. All that said, the product works good. It seems to be a product of the quality is good enough to do what is claimed. Given the price, I find that acceptable, especially since I might use this once per year. For a DIYer, this is a great product. IT will do what is needed and do it well. Spend more if you want on other brands, otherwise, this will do what you need.

Makes engine removal/installation so much easier!
I used this to pull the EJ25 out of my 1997 Subaru Outback. Being able to adjust the angle was helpful on removal and an absolute lifesaver for alignment when mating the engine back to the transmission on installation. I added some heavy-duty bearing grease to the threads of the adjustment rod to avoid binding when adjusting under load and would recommend others do the same.

Worked great - while it lasted
I did two engine swaps with this tool and it worked well overall with some caveats. There are a few minor gripes that others have mentioned - at steep angles the handle interferes with a chain which can make it difficult or impossible to turn, and the plastic knob on the handle comes unthreaded. The leveler will drop shavings as the metal rod and guide cylinder wear. You will want to make sure there are no openings for those shavings to land in and potentially cause harm. My leveler experienced a failure of the metal cylinder the threaded rod passes through to angle the engine. The threads internal to that cylinder wore out from use, resulting in it skipping teeth while trying to adjust the angle. These loads were well within the weight rating, this is simply result of wear. I suggest adding grease to the threaded rod to reduce wear on the rod and particularly the positioning cylinder. That may increase the useful life of the wear components. It may also reduce the amount of shavings that land on your engine. Disappointing it's not more durable. 3 stars because it's "only" $30 and did 2 swaps (2 out, 2 in), although the last install was made more challenging due to the limited ability to change the angle.

Great Leveler
Using this on a 4.8 ls was an absolute treat, high quality materials that functioned perfectly. To the reviewers that can't figure out why the black knob is installed backwards, if you can't figure that out, you shouldn't be changing an engine. The knob is held in with a screw, loosely installed towards the assembly so it fits inside the box and doesn't snap off in shipping. A monkey could figure this out. Great product, I will be buying Torin brand again in the future.
