8-Piece Full Tang Stainless Steel Serrated Steak Knife Set, 4.5", Black

I have my everlasting and sharp as can be Cutco steak knives. I have 10 of them. I have my Shun steak knives--but only four. I'd need a second job or mortgage to buy the additional four I want. Besides, while they're good, I don't find them to be better than Cutco. Both those sets cost so much money that it's really a once-in-a-decade type of purchase. The upside is that it's plausible that I will never need to buy steak knives again in my lifetime, especially since Cutco continually sharpens mine or sends me a new one if the one I send for sharpening is not worthy of fixing. Now, having said that, I was having 15 guests over for a steak BBQ dinner and realized that I was the genius who had JUST mailed off my knives to Cutco three days prior to the event. Too late to run to UPS to get them back, and I only have eight Wusthof knives, so....I immediately came to Amazon. I didn't want an expensive set because if I just had both sets in the house, I'd have enough to cover everyone. I really needed just a back-up emergency set and planned to spend under $100 for all 10-15 knives, if possible. If too pricey, I figured I'd order 10 and make do by pre-slicing some meat. Well, I then find this AmazonBasics set and it's...$20 for eight knives. I'm thinking it's a misprint and looking at the picture, there's simply no way these knives would be $20 for eight. Full tang, riveted handle, single-piece construction....a serrated edge....and $20. It doesn't make any sense and I'm convinced this is hogwash. It's not possible... But, you figure I needed these for one night and so long as they didn't disintegrate during the dinner, I figure it's just added cost to the dinner if they should fall apart right afterwards. They were available as Amazon Prime, so I ordered two as 16 knives would cover me for this dinner. Imagine my surprise when I open the box to find an actual single-piece construction, a viciously sharp serrated tip/edge and an incredibly sturdy feel in the hand. The rivets are embedded flawlessly and the look of the knives are quite impressive. They appear and feel hefty. Now, given that I'm comparing this to steak knives that cost well over $500 for the set ( Cutco: https://www.cutco.com/products/product.jsp?item=4-pc-steak-knife-set ), it's not surprising that Cutco is better in terms of sharpness. That set makes steak act like butter when it begins slicing. This AmazonBasics set is not quite as sharp; in fact, it's much duller than that set, naturally. But it accomplishes steak slicing with ease and in the hand, feels sturdier and pricier overall. The oddity is that the serrated edge is only at the front half of the knife instead of all the way through, so you do need to slant your knife more to achieve the cut with ease, though any which way you use it will get through the meat. Perhaps serrating the edge all the way through would have pushed the price up--in which case, fine, I'll take the first half of the knife. Overall, this set is superb in price and functionality. If budget is an issue and you want a whole 16 pc. set, getting two of these knives is no problem at all. They look outstanding on a table setting and while there's no real branding on the knife, they look and feel substantial. Nobody would guess you spent less than $3.00 per steak knife. NOBODY. This is now my go-to set for big parties where I am not concerned what people do with the knives. You figure if any of them break, I can come back and get as many of these sets as I want anytime. Really outstanding value and buy!

Initial Review: I received this set just a few days ago, so take this as an first impression type of review. The quality of these seem (or at least feel) as higher end. They are heavy, handles are wide and feels nice to the grip. One item i completely love about is that they are a single metal piece from tip to handle. I've had other knives that have the blade inserted into the handle and eventually break, come off or at least start wobbling - this cannot be the case here as the metal piece is one from end to end. The material of the handle seem like a form of man-made material, resembling wood, but I am not sure what it is nor how long it will last. I hope they last long - like i said, these knives feel great when handling. The rivets look nice, i, too, hope they are true rivets and not fake, so they will last. The blade is sharp and the serrated edge is coarse, which is makes cutting easy - exactly what you want in these knives. I have a set of Henckels kitchen knives (including steak knives) and the edge is not as refined, but i knew what i was getting since the pictures are clear - so no surprises, just pointing it out for those who need to pay attention or looking for a more refined "look and feel" of the blade edge. The knives say you need to wash them by hand - most of the knives do - i have not yet put them through the dishwasher, i will though, to test the durability of the handle and update after a few months of use. For now, I'm very happy with the purchase and would recommend - as first impression was positive. 4 stars since giving 5 star for first impression would be an emotional rating. Comparing these against more common brands found in department stores, i definitely don't second guess my choice - this is a good set of knives.

I ordered these to replace a set of very similar ones from another brand. I had to replace them because I ignored the directions and always put them in the dishwasher. Well, this type of handle doesn't like that much steam and heat, and after five years of that, the handle scales started to crack. So be advised that if you put these in the dishwasher, the handles might begin to crack. It's just the nature of this type of handle. On the other hand, even if you do, and they only last 5 or 6 years, I think you'll get your money's worth out of them. These are razor-sharp, and they buzz through meat like an electric knife. They fit my 'man-hands' perfectly, so I get a good grip even when my hands are a little wet. I just love the design, which is why I ordered these as a replacement. I hope this helps.

I am pleased with these steak knives and feel they are definitely worth what I paid for them! It’s really nice to own a matching steak knife set, finally! These knives easily cut through meat, they are good quality, weight, balance and handle are ergonomic and they were very much needed. I hand wash these knives and have had zero issues with stains or any rusting.

My old steak knives came with a cheapo knife block we bought years ago. Over the years, the steak knives have all gone missing, thankfully, because they weren't very good. I was looking for a set of 6 cheap replacements, these Amazon Basic knives were cheaper than the others, but with 2 extras. The knives are much higher quality than I expected for the price, with good heft and a sharp serrated edge. Can't beat them for the price.

Die Messer werden in einer flachen Pappschachtel sauber eingelegt geliefert. Für den Preis, sind die Messer sehr Scharf. Es sind keine Rostspuren oder ähnliche Verunreinigungen des Materials zu sehen und die Messer sind gut verarbeitet. Es befindet sich an keinem der Messer irgend ein Grat oder am Griff Kunststoffreste die störend sein können. Die Messer liegen gut in der Hand und der Schwerpunkt am Griff, wobei das Messer etwas schwer auf der Hand liegt aber kein Manko ist. Die Messer schneiden sehr gut, kann leider nicht sagen wie lange die Schärfe anhält. Die Anleitung gibt vor, beim Stumpf werden die Messer von einem Profi schärfen zu lassen. Alles in allem, kann ich zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt diesen Artikel für wenig Geld empfehlen.

Great looking steak knives... Does its job fabulously, all the time looking like a million bucks... Just wish it came with a knife block though...
