Network cable type will play a huge role in success (cat5e, cat6, etc)
I've used several of these HDMI extenders without issues. However you need to pay close attention to the distance ratings for the various types of network cabling. If you use cat5e cable, the max distance will be much shorter than if you use cat6 or cat6a, etc. I would also recommend using shielded cabling if the distance is greater than about 50'. In one instance I've used these to extend HDMI about 225' and the other was about 275'. Both work great using shielded Cat6 cabling, but neither would work using cat5e cable. Of course these distances are well beyond the recommended distances for using Cat5e cable, so that was not surprise, but it does prove that the cable type does play a huge role in the reliability of these units.I absolutely will be using these units again if I have the need.

Doesn't work past 50 feet even with Cat6.
I was excited when I tested this with a 50 foot Cat6 cable and it worked great. But then I realized I needed more length. I bought a 100 foot Cat 6 cable of the exact same brand but it didn't work. The switch on the device for longer cable mode does nothing. In the image you can see that there is only a rad light on the receiver box where there should be a green light as well indicating it is receiving data. Out of desperation I bought a 75 foot cable of the same brand since that should be long enough for my needs. But that didn't work either. At this point I must face the facts that the "164 foot range" is not accurate. It is not possible to contact customer support for this item for some reason.I am returning the item for a refund. If you only need 50 feet or less I guess the low price makes sense but, if you are like me, you need the full length that is advertised.

First one was DOA and possibly a customer return
I recently purchased this in order to hook up an HDMI camcorder to a switcher from the second floor of my house. The first one I received would not work. The transmitter was getting power and lighting up. The receiver was not getting any power and not lighting up. I tried several different HDMI cables, as well as different Cat 5 and Cat 6 cables with no luck. When I initially opened the box I noticed something out of the ordinary. The power cable included was not wrapped with any kind of twist tie. Any device I've ever purchased with cables has always had them wrapped and secured in some way. This leads me to believe someone else ordered this and returned it because it wasn't working. I sent it back and opted for a replacement. The second one works as it should. The power cable on this one was wrapped a secured with a twist tie. Overall, I think this is a great little device. I deducted a star due to initially receiving defective/used unit.

Works exactly as advertised
I've tried using a bunch of wireless products - and a rather long and bulky HDMI cable - before finally getting to this one, and it does it's job flawlessly. I'm using a long flat cable (I believe it's cat5?), and it delivers everything - both picture and sound - at clean 60 fps. Unlike other products it doesn't seem to use a lossy compression, so it doesn't introduce any artifacts. Content is updated with only a few milliseconds delay compared to a DVI monitor, which is instantaneous compared to other solutions. Overall I'd say I'm very happy with it and would recommend it to everyone trying to achieve the same goal as me - using a wall "smart" TV as a big dumb monitor with speakers.

This worked over 150 feet
Easy to set up and solved my problem getting my security camera video across my home to a bedroom TV over 150 feet away. I was using a hundred foot HDMI with a booster joiner for another fifty feet, that only allowed me to see the videos at the lowest DVR resolution. With this I was able to run a Cat6 cable the complete distance with no video loss. I can now see my security cameras at HD on the bedroom TV. Well worth the price and does exactly as described.
