Great product
Product is great. Does what it says. It is however quite noisy. Other than that it's a good size and quite discreet.

Outstanding support and customer services resolved my fault.
I have changed my review because after this initially failed after a couple of months and only a handful of uses I contacted the seller. They replied very quickly indeed and a helpful chap called Pete was more than happy to help.Thinking that it may be an issue with the power supply I requested a replacement. Pete advised me to send this in for a repair, however I was reluctant. I had transferred about a years worth of my photos onto the device and feared losing them if the device was simply replaced. I also knew that in a worse case scenario, I could simply hook the drive up to a desktop instead. Pete said that the case can be difficult to open but he was happy to send me a replacement power supply. He also said he would include a replacementnt PCB, as these can fail in rare circumstances. The parts arrived within days and after I tried the new power it was obvious this was not the issue. So I opened the device, replaced the PCB and I now have a functioning external drive again. One very happy customer which is a testament to the first class customer service and support I received after contacting the seller about my fault. Pete listened to my issue, identified a resolution and tailored his response to the customer needs. Ultimately allowing me to fix my issue without losing my data.

Cheap external drive
Normally I go for Seagate external drives but as the price has skyrocketed I took a chance with this Sonnics brand (4TB version) and so far so good. I use Windows 11 which isn't mentioned on the cover but I can confirm it worked perfectly straight out of the box, fully plug and play with no problem. I've backed up just over 1TB with no no noticable increase in noise just in case anyone was concerned. Its certainly not fast - but fine for backups which i can leave running in the background.Technical details (taken from HWiNFO64 v7.60)Its being detected as a SCSI drive but i thnk that has something to do with the interface rather than the drive itself.General InformationHost Controller: JMicron JMS567 SATA 6Gb/s bridgeDevice Description: Sonnics USB 3.0Device Firmware Revision: 0209Device Type: Disk driveDrive Capacity: 3,815,447 MBytes (4000 GB)Device addressSCSI Port Number: 3SCSI Path ID: 0SCSI Target ID: 0SCSI Logical Unit Number: 0SCSI Version: SCSI-6Device flagsRemovable Device: Not CapableTagged Command Queuing: SupportedLinked Commands: Not SupportedSynchronous Data Transfer: Not SupportedRelative Addressing: Not SupportedAsynchronous Event Notification: Not SupportedDevice StatusSelf-Test Result: OK

Avoid, the bare drive is £2 cheaper and the caddy isn't worth £2
I bought this because the bare drive was only £2 less and could always use another caddy. After a few days of using this the caddy is now in the bin.1. It runs hot, and makes the drive far noiser than it needs to be. There's no ventilation.. the only place heat is lost is through the metal lid on the top and I wonder if a bunch of the failures here are because people put it metal side down.. there's no indication this would be a requirement.2. It's *slow* - the best you'll get is about 40MB/s - 1/4 of the drive speed. They clearly pulled the interface out of the spare parts bin from the 1990s.2. And the killer - THE USB TO SATA CORRUPTS DRIVES!!I loaded the drive up with data (plugged directly into SATA as I'd still be there copying files if I tried to do it in the caddy), verified everything and it was fine.. even used it for a bit there, but that's not its ultimate use, so I put it into the caddy, and after a very few file writes (single digits) files started showing up corrupt.Curious I ran the experiment again with more files and.. it completely wiped the partition info and trashed the drive! My best assumption is the caddy is not compatible with 4TB drives and is wrapping at 2/3TB and just writing random junk once you go above that. The drive itself seems OK (passes SMART checks and seems to do what you'd expect a 4TB drive to do) but for the love of everything that is holy don't use the caddy with it.

Easy to use and brilliant for backing up your data.
I now have 2 Sonnics External Hard Drives, a 1TB and now this 2TB. I use one of them to do backups of my system at least once a week, and the other to copy my desktop at least once a month. They are SO easy to use and are a good price for what you get as well. I have a Mac and have had no compatibility issues whatsoever. They work with the Mac Time Machine backup software, as well as the basic OS and copy & paste function.. I am really pleased with them both. Highly recommended.

Does the job (even on Win 11) but slow & runs way too hot.
Before I begin, just to quell a dodgy review put up here recently, it runs fine on Win 11 with no issues at all, so don't let that put you off. This 4TB USB 3 external drive is very cheap, & offers a lot of capacity for the money. As a backup-solution, it's fine, but there are a few drawbacks. It's rather bulky, & as it needs it to be plugged in at the mains to work, not recommended as a portable solution. It is also noisy, a bit slow (transfer-rate maxing out at 143MB/s) & runs, really, really hot. That's hardly surprising as there are no cooling slots in the drives enclosure. After just 35 mins of use, the drives temperature rose from 24C to 41C, & was continuing to rise despite light use. Another 10C & there would be a risk the drive would fail. This means it can only be used for short periods & must be powered off when not in use so it is useless as an 'extension' drive - it should only be used for backing up data, not to process data from.I was, also, not at all impressed with the way it was delivered. The box it came in was torn & the top of the drives' caddy was party sprung-open. I managed to click it shut, but it doesn't bode well. I wonder if the package was dropped?

Not for U.S. market.
Not for U.S. market. "Mains Powered UK Plug Supplied and a european adapter is supplied for customers in europe." No plug for U.S. power outlets. Had to order a power converter separately at an additional cost.
