DER GOLEM (Masters of Cinema) Blu-ray

An Incalculably valuable cinematic treasure of the silent era. The acting is not over dramatic and the film has special effects not too far away from those associated with the 1940s and 1950s. There is terror here too, as with the summoning of the demon who gives the sorcerer the magic word needed for the Golem’s creation; a bringing to life that incurs great risk for those invoking it. With gorgeous scenery, including winding streets and massive wooden doors, viewers soon appreciate the art of the film, including its largely unintrusive score. Not without its amorous moments and with love expressed across a then impossible racial divide, the film is full of moment for modern audiences who now appreciate the fate of so many Jews in WW2. Yet even without the weight of history that would tragically unfold twenty years after the shooting of the film, this production would still hold viewers in great awe. I do not think I am qualified to use the epithet masterpiece, but surely that word is not out of place here. A ‘must see’ for all those with an interest in early horror films and for whom the silent era exerts a strong fascination.

Top film well packed with special features

You should really buy this one if you appreciate a quality print of a classic old silent 'horror' or maybe fantasy movie. Masters of Cinema do their usual great job of preserving great movies for the collector. I wasted no time in adding this one to the collection.

Nice packaging and booklet as is the norm. The film is as expected it's good but not one of the best German expressionist films.But still a brilliant.As a collector of eureka horror and world cinima is a very nice addition.

What can I say about the eureka masters of cinema release of der golem it looks amazing for an 100 year old film and all the extras you get on the blu Ray are just a delight I highly recommend to anyone to buy this edition

A great horror movie the remastered version really brings out the special effects and back ground, a lot of work went into the film

As usual Eureka/Masters of cinema delivered. When it comes to film we all know it's a classic. Picture quality is amazing ,especially when I think about older DVD editions. Real treat

Enchanting film, beautifully restored. MOC release yet another treat. Almost a companion piece to Dr Caligari. Karl Freud’s cinematography wonderful as always. 5 stars
