For the Love of Mike: A Molly Murphy Mystery (Molly Murphy Mysteries, 3) Paperback – June 9, 2015

The book was delivered in good condition. The Molly Murphy series by Rhys Bowen is so fun and refreshing. It is a joy to read an author who has a vocabulary larger than four-letter words!

Molly Murphy is a recent immigrant to New York, driven to read he US in order to escape the death she would suffer by a accidentally killing an man who tried to rape her. As she searched for food and substance, she met a private detective who hired her as office help. When he was murdered she decides to catch the killer. Now, in this novel, she is trying to make a living as a detective, trying to find a missing English woman and to solve a mystery about stolen fashion designs in the garment industry.Molly is an engaging heroine, trying to find her way in Tammany Hall New York and often naively blundering into dangerous places and situations. The surrounding characters are also engaging--even when they fall prey to hoodlums before we get to know them very well. Bowen's descriptions of New York are colorful and detailed, and her plots are lively, tense, and entertaining. Series like this sometimes become predictable; this series continues to improve!

This was the most action packed book (and I have read and LOVED all the Constable Evan Evans books) written by Rhys Bowen. Wow! I am exhausted. I say that in a very good way. Believe me, if you are tired of books that take countless chapters to get to the good part, you can be assured this one won't disappoint. Molly Murphy is a complete delight even if, at times, you want to shout at her to call in reinforcements before she runs headlong into trouble... again! Then there's just enough romance added, but without the explicit sex, to make that part of the story fun. So, in conclusion, if you want an entertaining read with lovable characters, this book in the series is excellent.

Great read. Molly is a good character, and good ending. Interesting view into lives of sweat shop workers given how much more change is still needed.

I have been captivated by the Molly Murphy series--well written, they take the reader back in time to the early 1900s, with historically accurate people and situations. Each book is a new cliff-hanger--not like other mystery authors where you can figure out early on "whodunit." Rhys Bowen keeps you guessing until the end. In "Mike", there were several subplots and situations which seemed distinct from one another but actually were linked. I love Molly's Irish outspokenness and "can-do" attitude, especially for a woman of her era--she certainly didn't fit the stereotypes of the era!! I definitely recommend For the Love of Mike--but by all means, read the Molly Murphy books in sequence, since they really do continue the story line from one to the next. Molly Murphy will keep you on the edge of your seat as you read through each of her next adventures.You can feel her concern for others and her desire to make things right.Daniel continues to pull at her heart strings but will he make the needed changes and will she continue to wait.A wonderful series to read. I think each reader will enjoy all Molly has to offer.

The history, the authenticity (I live in NYC) and the joyful reading of these wonderful stories about a brash and courageous woman are delightful and stimulating. One of the last people who knew about the settlement house on the lower east side and worked there, died recently. I saw him for bereavement about a different death and learned a great deal during the time I saw him then again when he was dying.

I have now just finished book 3 of this fantastic series and have thoroughly enjoyed all 3! I have ordered book 4 and cannot wait until I read it. However, having said all that, I think £5.99 for each volume is rather too much; when you take into account each novel has just 320/30/40 pages.

I bought this book because I originally thought it was the second in the series, but turns out it is the third. I still throughly enjoyed it and am now fully engaged in the series.
