Bought the hour after the Afternoon! because this ROCKS!!!
WOW! (was my reaction to the psp version and is to this as well)This was my first thought when I saw how High you can level up.9999 to max your character!! this game like it's psp brother has a nearly endless number of things for the "loot mongers" like me out there and soooo much customization it is insanetop this with actual reasons (such as maxing out character stats) for leveling up into the 9999 range only then is your character's potential fully unlocked!you also level up your weapons and armor in a method similar to dark cloud where you go into Item world and defeat the bosses there and residents to make weapons ann armor stronger.truly the voice acting is top notch and the hilarity of some of it is really good. as another reviewer said usually there's pro's and con's to every game but at this time even after having beaten disgaea I can not think of ANY bad points about this game.IF you are a loot monger and into twinking out your character to the absolute maxium this game was MADE FOR YOU!if you prefer the intense action of titles such as W.O.W. or diablo this Might not be for you but for anyone that liked Final Fantasy Tactics well, this seems to do all of that FAR BETTER then tactics : war of the lions has done. plus an unlockable etna mode that let's you find out what would have happened if etna killed laharl. totally as good as the ps2 version with so many bonuses it's a must have game of the year!Graphics: 5 Stars! very cool anime graphics with a japanese flair (plus cool demons!)Sound: excellent voice acting and humorous dialogue 5 stars!Fun: A Blast! 5 Stars!Ease of play Vs FF Tactics: better learning curve and does not end just as you get addicted actually I could be item hunting till this time next year! 5 Stars!Overall: 5 stars! Simply the best tactical RPG out to date and this coming from me a huge FF Tactics fan is a Big Endorsement of how well this game was made and how much consideration for the players the creators put into this Gem. buy it now while it's retail or pay a few hundred later. I bought this and afternoon of darkness and I recommend you do the same or you might regret it later. Buy Hour of Darkness for PS2 Here Disgaea: Hour of Darkness Or Afternoon of Darkness for PSP Here! Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness And the Strategy Guide Might help! Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness - The Official Strategy Guide ***Strategy Guide Note*** this guide is intended for BOTH Games and states this fact in and on the new guide. enjoy!

Blast from the past!
Beyond expectations. I have yet to upgrade to a newer system. And why would I? I dont have friends so online play isnt needed. And the ps2 has enough games to keep one person occupied for a life time. So earlier I got Disgaea, hour of darkness. I remember this game for when I was in high school. And the memories it brought alone were worth it. My experience with Tactical RPGs is vast. Staring with FF tactics (ps1) to fire emblem (GBA). I'm not expert but I do have an opinion. And in my humble opinion this is one of the best of the genre. Voice acting is on point (I actually laughed at the well timed jokes) and got very very into the games world. No spoilers for the story, but the characters are memorable, and inlove seeing a good arc for them to grow on. The graphics are great for the age. Not blockly and more in a hand drawn style in the way of Mangas. Spent well over 100 hours in game play. The leveling almost seems endless and just when you think you made it, you have the ability to reset your characters over again from higher starting stats just so they can grow stronger. I look forward to playing Disgaea 2 soon!

Awesome title for strategy gamers and anime/manga fans!
Disgaea what can I say? Well it is a great game with a variety of characters to choose and little by little raise his/her stats to achieve ultimate control. What I like is the characters design along with the original Japanese audio with the option of subtitles something very rare in today's games, but important for Japanese games' followers like me. The game's story is decent and the combination of combos and skills the characters use during a battle certainly makes you become more and more interested in exploring other areas as well. I spent hours and hours playing this game and never get tired of it. Think you have what it takes to get to the lowest level on a very rare item and defeat the boss? You are in for a big surprise. I certainly recommend this game given that it is very fun to play and the rarity of its kind due that is not longer in stores will make you feel you have a jewel in your hands and it really is.

Great game, but for collectors...
This is one of the best sRPG's out there along side Final Fantasy Tactics. Although this game has 100+ of gameplay, great story, replay value, and the humor isn't stale, the reason i got this was for collectors purposes since it is the "Original Black Label Edition." Since i already have a copy (greatest hits) i wanted an unopened version and when i got this in the mail it looks like the game was resealed not factory sealed which kind of annoys me. Over all the game is great and by all means buy it, but if you want to get a new copy of this game this might not be the solution.

It's Fine, I Guess
Other than the humor, this game didn't really stick out to me. Got sick of it about twelve hours in. Just wasn't fun, nor had that interesting of a story. Characters were pretty memorable, though. Overall, I don't think this game is worth a whole lot of your money.

The greatest SRPG I've ever played
Incredible SRPG that will take you months to 100% it.The thing that I like best about this game is the amount of content and how everything you do has an ultimate purpose; you can go in the Item World to either upgrade your weapons or to loot the Item Gods, you can make certain characters like Laharl learn magic through his/her pupils, so on and so forth. It's incredibly fun doing all of these things, as I've said nothing comes out as a waste of time. What really characterizes the series though is that you can level up your characters to Level 9999, but even that's not enough to defeat the bigger bosses as you need to reincarnate your characters back to Level 1 and level them up again, but with boosted stats. It's pretty mindblowing. This all may seem a bit overkill for those who simply want to experience the game as is, but just because the content is there doesn't mean you have to do it; the main story wraps itself up pretty well and that alone can be enough for the more casual players, but for the math freaks out there who wish to put even more time in it, this game is golden.

If you can get past the crappy graphics, its a great game
When I first played this game, I thought it was a rip off, because it looks like its from the PS1. A comparison to final fantasy tactics came to mind, from the graphics and gameplay. Disgaea is way better, with deeper gameplay and a really good and funny storyline ( I still havent figured out what ff tactics was about). If you like tactile games, you'll love this.

Slightly Dissapointed.
I didn't realize this would be a game similar to final fantasy tactics or fire emblem. I really don't like that type of grid based "chess-like" gameplay. The story is great though, and there is some fantastic voice acting. Fire emblem could really learn from that.Bottom line: If you like games like FFTA and Fire emblem, this is probably for you. Otherwise, just watch the anime version.
