Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness - Sony PSP

In the world of turn based strategy games, there are two which sit on top of the pile:Final Fantasy Tactics (the original), and this - Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (the original PS2 version, Hour of Darkness, is just as good as the PSP version, but being mobile allows more gameplay, and you'll always want to level up another weapon in the item world ;)...)On the surface, this is a tale of a Demon Prince coming of age, but in deeper lies the true message, one of friendship and loyalty, and of always improving oneself to be the best they can be, physically and intellectually, no matter what stands against you.Beyond that simple description, all I can do is emphatically suggest that any readers purchase it. It is side-splittingly hilarious most of the time, and gameplay itself is addictive, and can be as easy or complex as you wish.ITEM WORLD FTW!!!

This is a good game with solid mechanics and some fairly comical writing that is certainly enjoyable. The main story takes a long while to get through and all of the extra content will take hundreds and hundreds of hours to complete.

I had this game for the ps2 and I loved it. Of course there were some downsides to being stuck in my room with a strategy rpg in which it takes a good little while to get anything done. This remake of the game for the PSP is a perfect port, or whatever it is you wish to call it. Having it portable so that you can pause for an indefinite amount of time, not worry about it, pick it up and then finish what you were doing, even if it is a week later--not to mention that this is possible anywhere you happen to be--has to be the real way that this game was intended to be played. It's marvelous.

Entertaining enough, until it becomes apparent that you will most likely NEVER max out your characters in anything approaching a reasonable time frame. There is just too much stuff in this game, too much depth. Everything has levels-within-levels, the ability to go inside of every single item in the game and level it up by fighting hundreds of increasingly difficult battles inside it. I am a completionist and after spending hundreds of hours on this game I realized I would not be able to get everything or max out all my characters, I just didn't have enough time to devote to it.ASIDE FROM THAT: This game is reasonably fun and quirky, and very Japanese. Turn the English dub off! I only give it three stars because I felt a little overwhelmed at times, and the story on its own is just not that good. Take into account as well how many times you will be replaying the same levels over, and over, and over just to level up any new characters you happen to find or create...it gets very repetitive. I never felt like there was going to be enough of a payoff to devote that much time to the game. Didn't finish it.

I ended up re-selling this game. The plot seemed great. But the battle sequences are long, and are very strategy orientated. I don't mind it, but i got stuck on like the fourth battle.

I heard about this game series over the years, and finally decided to try it out. After I got it and began playing it, I loved it! The story is hilarious, and the characters are hysterical! Plus, it's cool that you can make your own party members and that every item is completely different, even if it has the same name. Plus, the strategy for completing each stage gives the game a challenge, but definitely fits it! All in all, I enjoy playing it and wished I got it much sooner than I did!!
