I didn't expect it to be this good!
I ordered this based on John Montana's review. I have a music degree and my full time flute is a lovely handmade professional model instrument that I've had 40 years and it sings beautifully. But I play a lot of outdoor concerts in the summer, and even my backup flute is too good to risk its safety. I was looking for an inexpensive instrument that would do the job, and I have to admit - the funky colors are a plus :). I ordered the sea blue (it took several orders and returns for me to finally get a blue one - they kept shipping silver, even when the label on the box said blue) -- but each instrument I received plays shockingly well. High, middle and low registers speak readily, clearly and in tune. The flute takes a workout with difficult music and the action is smooth and I keep saying, I just can't believe it plays, and plays this well! When the blue one finally came, it played just as well as the silver ones. And having the split E key is a nice feature. The negatives -- in all the instruments I received, the foot joint is overly tight. To the point where it's hard to get on or off, or turn. The B thumb key is a flat paddle, as opposed to slightly rounded, and feels like it makes my hand position a little awkward and uncomfortable. And there is no room for cleaning rod/rag in the case - which, by the way, is attractive and lightweight. Still, an incredible value! Time will tell if the mechanism stays well adjusted and the pads stay the distance, but I can see this being a solid student flute and great for people like me who want a budget-friendly backup. Overall, this flute blew my expectations away, and the friends I've let try it agree!

Beautiful sound, beautiful look!
I decided to get back into playing the flute, (used to play from 5th grade up to my senior year and a little in college, so I know my way around a good flute) and wanted a new one, came across this. I did my research and decided to get the antique flute. I have to say, it is gorgeous! However, I was hoping from the pictures it would have more hints of gold on the keys, but it's not really noticeable. And the ends of the middle and foot joints are rounded, they're not shaped like in the picture. Those were my only qualms. (Still giving it 5 stars)Other than that, it looks like stainless steel, I'm impressed by this style. Mine came with everything pictured, gloves and all. I'm sure over time the color will fade on the keys without the gloves, but that's normal after playing for a while because of the oils in your hands.I've had mine for about a week and have been practicing nonstop. The sound is beautiful, I can't remember the last time I was able to play all notes clearly, (especially the F key...) They all sound perfect! Now, I've seen reviews for the colored ones saying the color was chipped in areas, so I did look very closely and there were a couple of spots, but it's so miniscule I can't even tell. I don't know if that will change with time, but I'm sure with proper care and handling, it'll be fine. (Please don't leave your instrument in extreme temps!)My advice, get this flute, it's worth it! It's a lot cheaper than renting, and the sound and overall quality is just as good as the more high-end flutes. If its taken care of, cleaned after every use, and the springs aren't popped out (be careful with q-tips), this will last a long time.

Great just like a music store Flute
Purchased this flute for my Granddaughter when she had to turn in her borrowed school flute at the end of the year. The quality and sound was much better and her music teacher said it's a great flute for the money. We would definitely recommend to other families.

A lot of flute for very little money
I was at the NAMM show a couple of years ago and saw these colored flutes there, and thought it might be fun to have one, but forgot about it until the other day when I was looking for some flute accessories, and came across this one by accident. I had figured that I might pay $300-$400 - what used to be the going rate for a low-end student flute, but this was for sale for the amazing, almost unbelievable price of $86. I figured that for less than $100 it was worth a try just for the color, but I was a little leery about what kind of quality I was going to get at this rock-bottom price point. I must say, I was very pleasantly surprised - it's actually a good flute. Well made, intonation is good, sound is good. I like it a lot. I'm actually going to use it for some gigs I have coming up. The hot pink will add some bling on stage.By way of comparison, I have a few other flutes, the best being a top-end Powell that I paid north of $12,000 for. This one is around ⅔ of 1% of the cost of that Powell. And the reality is that in this day of computerized design, CNC machine processes and all the other industrial process improvements of the last few decades, these inexpensive instruments have gotten very good. As far as value for money goes, this is a much better value than the Powell, nice though the Powell is.If you're looking for an inexpensive instrument for your kid or yourself, this is a really good deal. And the colors are pretty cool. At this price, you can afford to have a few, so as to match your clothing ensemble.

Expectations exceeded!
I have an $800 flute already but it's old and needs reconditioning - new pads and a new headpiece. That will cost $400. So I thought I'd try this flute instead of spending that much money on rejuvination. I wasn't expecting much for $100. What a surprise I got! It's beautiful. It sounds great and comes with everything you need. I bought the antique finished one. I've played flute for 40 years and this is a great product. Expertly manufactured, beautiful finish, smooth action and great pads for flawless notes. If you're new to the flute it's going to take time to get it right. Keep at it because this is a great flute.
