Under Rated in US.
Smokie has never been as a Band here in the U.S. than in GB. But I clearly remember their songs were played on BBC etc. Actually in the summer of 1975 I went to UK on a school summer trip, I wanted to forget about being dumped by my then HSSW. It was a dreary dark humid London Sunday PM and I was Sardined in there with one TV, and about a hundred IMPERIAL students each with their own local odor. I honestly was thinking about YKW.The program was called TOP of the Pops. And I heard Smokie live for the first time, singing one of their classics +If You Think YOU know HOW TO.....41 years later, I still enjoy their original tunes (without school kid Peeing on it and that Bafoon keep asking Who the is Alice. Somebody tell this Bozo that Alice is the one you missed.Quality is good and you'll get a lot to tunes for you dow.

Well done Smokie- 40 years
Having been a Smokie fan for a long time, I was looking forward to this release and to be fair it is very good but ..................yes there is always usually one, there does seem to be a few odd track selections and I assume there must have been quite a bit of a debate from the 4 original members as to what should be included. On the positive side it is good to see that Alan Barton is also recognised on a few tracks and there are one or 2 new songs plus some from the vaults.Overall as I have said I think the cd is very good, hence 4 stars but it could have been even better, I would like to thank the record company for the release which is well deserved for all associated with Smokie who have entertained us so much over the years.

Smokie Stole My Heart!!!
Since I am not that old (early 90's baby) but very much enjoy older songs, I have gotten in the habit of playing songs from the '70s and '80s for my dad. Generally he remembers practically everything (Dad, I'm SO glad we share the same tastes in music!), but when it came to Smokie, he only recognized "Living Next Door to Alice" which he remembered because he was familiar with New World's version. I was amazed (I thought my dad knew all the songs! :)) until I realized that the US never really knew Smokie. Oh, what a loss!!!! This album is, of course, Smokie's greatest hits from their beginning to the present. If you love Smokie even half as much as I do, I highly recommend!!! :)

What memories!
It was so much fun listening to this and all the memories it brought back. I may need to make this a weekly thing for awhile...just listening to the CD for a while each week. So great songs. I highly recommend this CD, if you like Smokie!

Nostalgic Enjoyment, Especially When Coupled With a Glass of Real Ale
It's enjoyable listening to 6 or 8 of these old jukebox hits. As for the rest of the tracks, mmm, not so much. Still, it wasn't expensive and the sound quality is OK, so I'm happy with the purchase. Need to give some of the more obscure tracks another listen; maybe they'll grow on me ....

A must for any true Smokie fan.
What can I say? I've been there for these guys right from the very beginning, through all their lineup changes, through their triumphs and their tragedies, so this was a MUST purchase for me. This 40th anniversary CD collection showcases some of their hits and songs that will live on forever. Love the re-mix even though people complain about it. Why? Doesn't detract from the fact its a great song and the techno beat just adds something a little bit extra. If the guys don't mind it why should anyone else? Plus the two new songs 'At the end of the rainbow' and '40 years on' make this even more special. Can't wait for their new album next year ! Well done Smokie - congratulations on reaching this milestone. Look forward to the next 40 :)I don't care that people say this is just a collection of 'old' songs and nothing new. Those people in my opinion can't call themselves true Smokie fans, because as a 'fan' I collect anything they bring out, whether its new or re-releases. But thats just me, so don't start hating !!!

Wonderful!
This is a great album. It takes me back to when I was young and my days at university. All my old favourites are here as well as some I had forgotten. I would love to see them in concert even though the line up has changed over the years! At the risk of sounding like an old fogey, they really don't make bands like this today.

Great CD and Customer Service!
The CD is fabulous and even though it’s arrival was delayed (shipped from Australia to UK), email exchanges with Jack were apologetic, helpful, friendly, obliging by offering a refund. The latter wasn’t needed as the Smokie Gold CD arrived safely and it was worth the extra wait (due to postal delays during this pandemic).

Great album for Smokie fans
Great album for a fan of Smokie. Although I was not familiar with most of the songs on here - it was a present for my husband - the sound was similar throughout, and provided a nice backdrop to our afternoon.
