Updated review. 2 of the 4 failed at install.
Update: I mounted two more of these on my kayak and each one blew out one of the locking nuts. So of the 4 total I purchase half of them failed. Not good. I think the problem is that they have the locking nut going in from the back side and the slightest downward pressure or movement allowed them to get pushed out.Why not have some of the plastic cover the back side to avoid this problem? The bright side is that I didn't have any cross threading the way i did it and was able to remove each of the two rod holders to try again. But I gave up after each one failed the same way on the second try. These are not a terrible option and right now they are really your only option to buy that I can find. When they work they are very solid so I would buy again but figuring out how to install them without blowing out the locking nut is the key....I'm probably going to have to make my own with aluminum or star board because these are good if you can get them to work but worthless if not.Original review---I’m pretty sure I’ve tried to use these before and had issues listed in the reviews with stripped screws and cross thread nuts. But this is still the easiest way to mount a Scotty base when you have limited access. So I had a plan.1. I took on screw and dipped in grease slightly.2. I threaded every locknut with that screw by hand. No power drill.3. I drilled the holes in kayak one at a time. After each hole was drilled in put a screw in to hold the base in place. I used a slightly bigger drill bit because I don’t want any interference with the screw on the way to the nut.4. I took some wire and threaded through two of the holes in the base. Plenty of information online about how to mount accessories to a kayak using this method so I won’t explain.5. I hand tightens one at a time and was very careful to not cross thread. You don’t want a ton of downward pressure or you’ll blow the locking nut out of the base.6. Carefully alternating screws until it was all snug. This worked perfect when I went slow and used a screwdriver. Only time I used a drill was first the holes.

Perfect backing plate for the Scotty Anchor Lock.
I paired this together with a piece off cutting board as a backing plate for the Scotty Anchor Lock on my Kayak. This was nice because, it came with the hardware. The bolts were just long enough to go through all four and tighten up in the locknuts. No complaints.

Perfect, absolutely perfect.
Worked out great! I bought a Scotty three rod holder base and it came with a additional Scotty mount. I tried to mount it on the side of my kayak with rivets and they where not long enough to work, I then tried screws and it wasn't secure enough to suit me. I saw this backer with bolt and said to myself that's what I need to mount this with. After seeing all the bad reviews I was just going to make my own. I forget I had added this to my cart, and when I checked out, i accidentally purchased it. Oh well, $5 is not going break the bank, so thought I'd give it a try, since I needed something, and I wasn't putting forth effort making anything to secure the mount. Might as well give it a try and....it worked perfectly. I didn't have any trouble what so ever. Not sure what went wrong with everyone else's but it worked fine for me, no cross threading, no problems what so ever. Just use a good screw driver line up your bolts with the holes and get them all 4 started before u start tightening them down and just go back and forth between them tightening them all a little at a time till u have them all four tight. Piece of cake. Very solid, Very secure, nylon nuts so the bolts will not back off over time, nice hardware, over kill if u ask me. This mounts is not come off, and that u can bank on.

Needed for kayak anchor lock
Wish it came with the 241 mount but I guess with all the various applications and types of watercraft they can be mounted too would often be a waste to include. I used to mount the scotty anchor lock to a 10' lifetime kayak. Highly recommend if putting a mount on a kayak vs just using screws...provided you have access to mount point.

Great plate - bad hardware.
I ordered 2 of these for my Kayak, one for a new rod holder I was adding and the 2nd to replace an existing wood backing plate I made. The plates are nicely constructed and seem as durable as Scotty's rod holders. The install was easy and because it came with bolts and nuts I didn't have to scrounge through my junk box to find some that would work. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the lock nuts Scotty's uses are too strong for the screws. The locking material is difficult to get through when bolting the assembly together (I stripped the head of one of the screws on initial assembly) and nearly impossible to remove if you want to take the screws out. I had to use my Rotozip to cut the heads off of two of the screws because they stripped out when trying to remove them. I replaced them with two of my own bolts and lock nuts which worked perfectly. If you never plan to remove the rod holder or backing plate then go ahead and use the supplied hardware but use a manual screw driver as a power driver is likely to strip the head of the screw about half way through the tightening process. If you think you might want to remove the mount at some point use a more forgiving lock nut.

Needs modifications...
Number 1... people are having problems screwing the bolt into the nut. Some have said " use antiseize on threads" noooooo! The problem is that the nylon inserts on the nuts are too big!I used a drill bit one size smaller than the bolt (7/32") to drill out some of the nylon. After that it went in much easier but still enough resistance to secure the bolts.Number 2... the bolt could be a lot shorter! I will have to cut them because they'll interfere with my foot placement ( in my chosen position)Other than that, I've seen this product for a little cheaper at my local Marina. (Fogh Marine)Smooth sailing!

Need to use anti sieze on the bolts.
They worked great. My only complaint was that the first screw I put in went in a couple of threads and it gauged. I had to carefully cut it off without damaging the boat. Used anti sieze on the rest of the bolts and didn’t have any more problems. Be nice if the instructions had that info. In them.

Excellent product I'd recomend this item for any installation of Scotty mounts. Excellent product. I'll buy one of these for every Scotty mount I installed on my boat.
