Great for cleaning washing machine
Used 2 cups citric acid with one scoop of oxyclean in my washing machine for each of 3 washings with a 2 hour soak, and the black gunk is gone. Great product. I tried washing machine cleaning tablets, baking soda, bleach, oxyclean by itself, vinegar, lemon juice, etc. all to no avail. The citric acid really worked.

My go to cleaner for hard water scale!
I live in a city with very hard water. I spent almost a decade here wiping things down and fighting against mineral buildup without finding anything that easily removed the problem. Our house is built in such a way that we just can't put a water softener in because there is no place to put a drain line. Unfortunately it seems that we're just stuck fighting the buildup. Then one day I stumbled across the knowledge that citric acid loves to eat away at the mineral buildup from hard water. This stuff has been a miracle worker! I've removed so many years of mineral buildup all over our house! The faucets in the bathrooms look like new! I clean out my tea kettle every few weeks with this stuff! My favorite use for this is in the dishwasher. I add about 1 - 2 teaspoons just tossed straight in to the bottom of the dishwasher before I turn it on. The first wash after we did this the first time was so amazing! I couldn't believe how clean my dishes looked. After the first week of trying this out it was almost like we'd replaced all of our dishware. Years of buildup that had also caused other stains was gone. I drink big glasses of iced tea every day and my tumblers were starting to get a tea colored tint on the inside. Thanks to the hard water scale being removed, the stain that was attached to it disappeared too and all of my tumblers looked like I'd just bought them! My mom was so impressed by how clean our dishes looked that she bought a bag of citric acid and now tosses some in with every dishwasher load too!It is SO quick and easy to use as a cleaner. It is activated with just hot water. I put hot water in a container, pour some citric acid in and either drop things into the container to soak, or hold the container under things so that they can be submerged like the faucet head in my bathrooms. Some spots need a little more creativity. I sprinkle granules around the handles of the faucets in the bathroom where drips from wet hands like to cause buildup over time and then drizzle tiny amounts of hot water over it. It works so quickly, usually within 3 - 5 minutes, then I use a sponge to try to rub it in to tough build up a bit and then rinse it all away, that's it! I put some in my hot kettle right after I've made my morning tea with a little extra hot water in the pot. It literally takes 30 seconds to remove all the scale from the bottom of the pot, and then it's clean as new. I do this every 2 - 4 weeks and today my 2 year old kettle still looks new which is a miracle with the hard water here.I know that there are a lot of uses for citric acid, but I only use mine as a cleaner for hard water scale and i can't say enough good about it. It has been the miracle that my house needed when other options for removing scale have failed. It's cheap, easy to use, not a harsh chemical like so many other cleaning products, I so highly recommend this if you're struggling with hard water buildup!

Useful stuff, for uses I didn't originally plan on
Back when I learned how to cheaply make mascarpone cheese, I ordered a bag of this stuff. Later, I decided that I didn't really like using citric acid for that (I settled on tartaric acid as my preferred acid for making mascarpone). This left me with a ton (or, slightly less than five pounds) of citric acid. So, I've pretty much just used the citric acid for cleaning purposes ever since. It's cleaned several challenging areas in the bathroom. When I have a particularly bad pot or pan that I can't get clean after some kitchen disaster, I like to soak it with warm water and citric acid, and it usually loosens up whatever mess I need to scrub away. When I had a big layer of pigeon droppings stubbornly clinging to my patio under the carport, I made a quick citric acid solution and soaked the droppings to loosen the mess up (that way, once it was ready to easily be swept/scraped/sprayed away, it would only take me 30 seconds of work instead of spending half an hour fighting with it).I have insanely hard water where I live now, and sometimes the dishwasher gives me cloudy dishes. So I'm about to attack that problem by adding a good bit of citric acid to my detergent.I ordered the 5 pound bag in December of 2011, and I'm still working on the same bag. It's lasted a really long time.My only complaint is that the bag had broken open during shipping. But since I only needed a small amount for my original purpose (I planned to use it a teaspoon at a time making cheese), I didn't care that I lost some of it in the shipping. Also, the only other item in the box was a notebook, and the acid didn't seem to damage that at all. So I never made a big deal out of it. And I don't notice too many other people complaining about it happening with their shipments, so I assume it's rare and my situation was a fluke.

I started buying this brand in 2012 - still the best (and great value)!
I foolishly had tried a different brand of citric acid and found the crystals to be too large to dissolve quickly.I am happy to report that Spicy World has maintained their fine grain quality as I expected. The product is double-bagged - the other bag, plus a clear inner bag. This prevents clumping. The crystals dissolve quickly in my iced tea, which is the main reason I use it.FIVE (5) STARS! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and I gladly recommend this product.
