i love Stoicism
the Meditations is a profound and deeply reflective work. a quick read of the book really doesn’t do it justice, and the annotations accompanying the entries are extremely helpful in this volume. this is a nice, bite sized approach to learning and practicing the philosophy.

Helps "Explain" Aurelius's Meditations
This book has some helpful interpretations and comments on MA's Meditations. I first got it out of the library. I wanted something that "explained" Meditations, not just a print. I got it to give to someone who is getting a divorce and having a very rough time.MA's advice that if something external bothers you (person or circumstance) Don't let it bother you, is very hard to implement but is advice I took to heart about 45 years ago. Took me many years to get to where I "care" about stuff but don't internalize any stress over it. Great way to live! The commentary in this book can be very useful or useless -- depending on which subject is being addressed. Worth a read, though.

Timely Meditations
I have already read Russell McNeil's The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius three times. The time was very well spent. McNeil brings Aurelius alive with wisdom, perspective, timeliness. Frankly, I am ordinarily annoyed by annotations and explanations, but in this case they are indispensable to the reading, and do the Aurelius selections full justice. It felt like McNeil was "channeling" Aurelius, that the additional commentary would have been what Aurelius would have added. Want to live a better life? McNeil has brought us Aurelius' still authentic and relevant answers.

Easy to read
A well laid out book which makes interpreting Aurelius's meditations easy. The writing style is concise and clear and offers wonderful insights to the meditations. The introduction is thorough and interesting and an integral part of the book - providing a backdrop to the times. I'm sure this book will be a regular addition to my bedside reading collection for a long time. It's the sort of book you can flip open at any page and find something worth pondering.
