For Every One

Loved it. Quick read.
If you haven't heard of Jason Reynolds in these past few years, this is a great introduction. I was looking for a book to either start the year or end the year with for my Seniors, and this short novella fits the bill. It is exactly what the title says it is: for everyone. It is full of hope and encouragement. I wish I could purchase it for each of my Seniors instead of just reading it to them. Like most Reynolds reads, it is written in verse and is just beautiful.

It's truly for everyone
I wish I could gift a copy of this book to everyone. Whether I know them or not. It's not just a letter from the author, it's an inspiring reminder to keep fighting for your dreams. To never give up, especially when things are tough. Find a passion that ignites you like nothing else and let it drive and propel you from the inside out. It's also a reminder that we are all human and flawed and we fail. A lot. But we can't give up. I loved this book. So much. It's one of those books that delivers hope concisely, powerfully, unconventionally, unapologetically, and honestly. The hope is bone deep. I will read it over and over again. I'm passing it on to my teenage son. And then to my husband. And then slowly, but surely, to everyone I know who dares to dream, and especially to those, like me, who are sometimes scared to. Or who forget that dreaming makes life endlessly worth the fight. Thank you, Jason Reynolds, for putting your heart in these pages, I think it reminds us how similar we all are. Hope, doubt, perseverance - they make us undeniably human and that's such a beautiful, messy thing.

Perfect Grad Gift Idea
I graduated this year so I bought a large stack of these to pass out as gifts to my friends. The “oh the places you’ll go” book is a classic/traditional book but this one is everything. It’s perfect for anyone making a life change or in need of shifting their perspective. It’s lovely and motivating and moving and beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes and made me feel grounded and supported as I step off into my future. I’m thankful that I happened to stumble upon this beautiful piece of work. Thank you, Jason Reynolds.

Checked out from library and wanted to own
My husband (a professional artist and also named Jason) was inspired by this book - after borrowing it from the library, we decided to purchase it to own it. It appeared in a list of unique high school graduation gift ideas. While this is not the gift we ended up giving for that occasion, it was a gift to ourselves. It’s a quick read, so it’s pulls you back to read it again. We have since enjoyed learning more about the author.

Read Jason Reynolds
I have all of his books -- this one lives on the bedside table of my guest room so everyone that visits reads it. Encouraging, to say the least. Beautiful, like art. Read it.

Quick Read!
Used this for a bookclub for young African American young men in the 12-13 year range. The value in the book was really on the discussion. I'd recommend the author create an accompanying exploratory-self reflecting workbook.

Jason Reynolds started out a poet and it is absolutely beautiful to see his letter to himself in poetry
This book made me put down a paper for college and read. It is profound. Jason Reynolds started out a poet and it is absolutely beautiful to see his letter to himself in poetry. I found quotes that meant something to everyone I know. I even had to buy another copy because I just gave it to someone who needed his words as guidance in her life. It's not a difficult read but every time I open the book, I find something else to help me through whatever is going on in my life.

Honest and Raw - All Humans Need to Read
When picking up this book, I had no idea that it would emotionally impact me the way it has. This book inspired me take the jump towards having passion in living. I needed this book in my life, and I didn't even know it. I have read all of Brene Brown's books, but the message in this book has changed me more than all of her books combined. This book is a must read for readers of all ages! I wish there was a way for me to buy a copy of this book to hand out to everyone that I encounter on a daily basis. The message of hope through confusion is something that all humans need to read. Honest and raw in a true Jason Reynolds' way!

Everyone
I take it as truth that Jason speaks truth, or perhaps writes truth with this title and all it speaks. A 64 yr old grandpa (father) husband, dreamer, coach, still trying. For everyone as I ponder who I should gift this to, would it could be all in their stage, even the ones who think they’ve got this…maybe them most of all.

Powerful and Inspiring
I don’t just love this book, I needed this book and will need it countless more times throughout my life. I had no idea how much this book would impact me emotionally. With a title For Every One this book has a lot to live up to, like it has to literally be for everyone. It needs to speak and connect with every reader that picks it up to be a self fulfilling prophecy, so to speak. And it does! As I read this book it hit me that it deals with emotions that we all feel from time to time:DemotivatedThat we can’t do itFear of failureFrustrationThat we won’t reach that mile stone/achieve that dreamSelf-doubtHonestly, I've felt a fair few of those feelings over the last two month, I started a new job and created a book blog. Both have taken a lot of effort, with so so so much learning involved it’s been tough. I want to be successful in both and for a time I was uncertain I could be successful in either.I picked this book up May 15th and as I read it, I felt like I was getting a pep talk from my bff. At the end, I felt empowered to keep going because that’s what we do. I started the next day with a fresh outlook and a reminder to read For Every One again whenever I start to feel stressed. This book is for the dreamer in us all, it’s written to keep that dream going. This is a short book, the paperback version 101 pages and written in verse. It’s so easy to read, you can get through it in a hour or two. It’s written like a letter, the layout changing slightly depending on the meaning of that page. None of the pages are continuous pros. It’s not a story so I can’t give you deets on the plot, it’s just a letter about reaching for your dreams from someone who hasn’t reached theirs yet either and what a dream is. This book is a prompt to keep going, to not give up.Jason Reynold’s way with words is just delightful, it’s poetry but without the pretentiousness. He’s written this poem, letter, this mighty thing and it is the best pep talk I could suggest to anyone. He wrote this based on his personal experience following his own dream “A letter to myself to keep from quitting”. He knew that the struggles he went through (maybe even still is going through) whilst he’s chasing his dream, are the struggles that we all face with our own. This book started off as something he did for himself to keep him going and then chose to share it with the rest of us. Great decision on his part! I have another of his books on my tbr, Long Way Down, a book that deals with grief and revenge. I’m super looking forward to experiencing more of his work.Between him and Elizabeth Acevedo they’ve opened the Poetry realm to me, and I didn’t think I was a poetry person. This book is For Every One, and with how I felt after reading it I will recommend it to everyone. Some of my friends might end up with it for their Birthday or Christmas to that they have to read it. If you’re having a tough time in your job, chasing your dream, working on a project get yourself a copy of this book. It’ll help!

So much wisdom in such a small package.
I bought this for my 14 year old son as a Christmas gift. I wound up reading it before him and when I finished, I told my husband 'this is one of the best books I've read'. It's hard to explain how something so small can be so powerful. Jason Reynolds has a gift for capturing big ideas in a couple of phrases. It reads like a letter, a love note, a motivational speech and a prayer. If you are an artist or creative or someone trying to bring their dreams to life in any way, this will speak right to your soul. I absolutely loved it and will buy it again as gifts for people who need it. Which is, frankly, everyone.
