This product performs better than the seller described. They recommended 1/3 to a whole bag to start a fire. My first test was with less than 1/8 of a bag. I used a round ferro stick for striking. I was able to strike the spark, and get a sustained hot burn for about 6 to 7 seconds. My second test involved the same amount of magnesium, and dried moss as tinder. This ignited on the first strike again, and was able to properly catch the moss, and generate embers for me to feed. The only drawback I found was that the magnesium dust gets into the small ziplock surfaces, so I recommend bringing a larger bag to hold the magnesium pouch in once opened. It was recommended to make contact with flame for at least five seconds if using a lighter. Honestly, if I have a working lighter for five seconds, I don't really need the magnesium. It struck fine with ONE SPARK from the ferro stick, reliably. No matches or lighter required. It also burned hot and bright, in the same way I am accustomed to magnesium burning, so it did not appear to be alloyed with anything. The tin arrived in great shape, and looks very useful for other purposes.

48% of americans lack emergency supplies. Dont be the half of the population thats screwed if the shtf. I cant compare this to other magnesium because this is all ive ever used but i was able to start a fire quite easily with a small amount of shavings and a flint striker.

Proper care, just a little will do you, and proper fire starting technique, this will start a fire every time. Very light weight. Emptied one bag in a small plastic bottle to keep it secure and dry and easy to find and use. Good product.

No matter how you like to start your fires, carry a little bag of this with you. I carry 5-6 different ways to start a fire and, on my last trip, high winds were causing me grief every way I tried. I had never used this stuff before. Sparked up about a teaspoon with a ferro rod and got several valuable seconds of flame that got me started. I'll never go camping without it again.
