Great emergency survival shovel/spear

great emergency shovel.. only thing i didn't like is that the carrier is a two part.. shovel in one handle in other.Has a knife/saw you can screw in the end of the handle and turn into a speareasy to put together.. fairly sturdy.. light weight. Not top of the line, but great for sticking in a backpack while hiking or in my case in a go back in each of the family members cars. I will buy a couple more soon.

Overall Good uality

Have not actual use this yet, but seems to be a very good quality and very handy tools for camping, hiking Etc. tools came in two separate pouches, not sure why they don't attached these pouches together or just make one pouch for all the tools, anyway I stitched two pouches together this way I know for sure i won't misplace it.

Sturdy tool

This shovel is very solid and sturdy, great as a versatile tool. Only complaints are that the head doesn’t fold all the way flat and there are two carrying cases instead of everything being stored in one pouch.

Perfect for Camping and Hiking

I can't wait to use this when I go camping and for the price and quality you can't beat this shovel. It comes pretty sharp so handle with care.

How much will you use it?

If you have been shopping for anything with "Camping" or "Tactical" in the description, you have likely seen this product or something very similar in your Amazon ads.Versions have been popping up from an array of sellers for some time, many touting how they are "better" than the "others" in some way.Because I only own two, from two different sellers, I can't cover all of the "others". I also don't know what your needs and expectations are. What I do know is I probably paid too much for the first shovel I purchased. Based on this product and what it is currently selling for, the broad competition has driven these to be quite affordable. That, I think, relates to the variable of how much you will actually use this thing. For me, it is an emergency tool. One stashed in the toolbox of the truck and one stashed in the spare tire space of the Jeep.I spent some time putting it together, checking out the "tools", and giving a test-dig with the shovel. It is simple, but not fast, to assemble from the bag. The tools are not great quality. If you are camping you are likely packing a much better/more convenient knife, hatchet/axe, matches/lighter, and (very important!) bottle opener. I will resist the urge to dig into the very popular keyword "tactical" and redirect you to a more appropriate term for the more common purpose of this tool "prepper".There are numerous iterations of this tool available. Looking at the pictures will show many are identical, with different branding/logos. Some even recycle the same pictures that appear on other brands. The truth for the majority of us... Find the price point vs quality vs extra "extensions/tools" you are comfortable with, and plan to use it in a pinch or, in preppers terms.. when SHTF.I deducted one star from this item to emphasize there are identical versions available at a lower price point. This has a good quality steel for the shovel head, has nice machined connections that do not wobble, and uses lightweight aluminum in appropriate places to save weight/mass.Thank you, Faimer and Amazon, for sending this tool for honest review. I hope everyone finds it useful.

Everyone Needs One for Emergencies

Impressed with this shovel so far. We're live deep out in the country, on a stretch of land cut out of the forest. Less than a minute walk from any of the homes on our property, and we're already in the woods. Although I like to keep this in one of the trucks, it's great to carry with if I make my way out past the treeline. Dependable choice if you hunt, hike, camp. Or if you just needed something fairly reliable for a go-bag. It's easy to assemble. The durability of the shovel head itself is solid. Really loving the saw edge, works in a pinch if you need to build shelter or make a fire. The extras are basically okay at best, I already keep that stuff with me anyway when I'm out in the woods. Like a similar shovel I've owned, so far it served its purposes as far as digging, chopping, using it as a makeshift hammer. Big difference is that it costs about sixty bucks less than many similar shovels. So on top of everything you could potentially use it for, you're saving more cold hard cash in the long run.

Field tested...decent.!

After opening the box, first impression was pleasantly surprised by how sturdy the build of this shovel seems to be. Joint between handle and shovel head is solid, Saw teeth are offset (good thing!) and seem quite sharp. After inspection l took it out to my backyard. I cut small branches easily with the saw. I was able to chop an ash log into kindling with the ax side. No visible damage to the saw teeth or ax edge. I dug a small hole, the handle felt sturdy and stiff.Cons, You may as well throw the knife and whistle away, The knife is flimsy and the whistle barely works. But truthfully I didn't buy the shovel for those purposes.Overall, for $35 this is a great backpacking / camping shovel. There are so many similar ones on Amazon, some cheaper, some quite a bit more expensive, I can't see one being much better so save your money. I definitely could see one being worse, so My two cents is this is the shovel to buy.

Seems like a sturdy utility shovel.

Just got it and looked at it. I thought it would be all metal, but it's not, the flint with the whistle is plastic. And i thought the chopping side of the shovel and the knife would be sharp and it's not. Had to sharpen it myself. Smaller than what i thought it would be. But that's my fault for not checking the measurements. Seams to be put together well though. Going camping in few weeks, so i will maybe try it out then. Thanks.

Solid Shovel, Average Attachments

Its a little smaller than I thought it would be but not by much. All in all its pretty solid. Rubber O-rings in the base of all the threads give a solid seal. The shovel blade is thick and sturdy. The knife is also a little smaller than I thought it would be, but its decent. The blade is fairly sharp, but it doesn't have a sharp point. Also the whistle component that looks gold/brass is made of plastic and imo the whistle itself doesn't whistle very well/loud. So, as a compact collapsible camp shovel its pretty sweet and I'll probably get lots of use out of it, but the knife and whistle/ferro rod are just extras and I likely won't use them much.

You get what you pay for.

So I purchased the shovel. The whistle doesn't work, the sheath is cheap with no way to attach it to a belt, it rattles at the base, ( so not so good for hunting. ) The knife will cut string, but I wouldn't try to fillet a fish with it, the blade of the shovel is quite strong, the saw is also effective and I've been storing fishing line and a hand chainsaw in the extensions . Not the best, but you get what you pay for. Reasonable for the price.
