Does the job if you know what the job is
I’m shocked at the number of bad reviews due to ineffectiveness, bad taste or expiration date. First, pastilles like this work primarily to coat the mouth and throat with a smooth, thick substance to ease a sore/scratchy throat. They’re not medicine. If you expect anything more than the above, buy medicine. Secondly, because they are not candy, they don’t taste or feel like candy. I buy these precisely because I have dry mouth and throat and they work great at stimulating saliva and coating my dry mouth and throat with something soothing that’s not gum, sugar or irritating sweeteners. They aren’t super sweet (tend to be slightly tart actually) and they aren’t soft like gummy bears but also not hard and crunchy. They are meant to suck on and relatively quickly dissolve. Finally, if you buy these and they are bad tasting to you or don’t “work” for you or the expiration date is within 6 months or WHATEVER REASON, they have a 45 day money back guarantee. Contact THE SELLER. Not Amazon. The seller’s info is on the product package and they will explain their terms and tell you how to get your money back. Also, how do so many people not understand that although Amazon will not let you return anything edible, they will refund your money if what you purchase is meant to be edible but not edible. If it’s not acceptable for you to consume because no human would be able to consume it, contact Amazon and they will refund your purchase. They don’t want your nasty garbage back so toss it, get a credit, and try another pastille. They vary widely in flavor but most are otherwise close to what you get here. Also, don’t buy the one that claims to ease anxiety with magic..ahem homeopathy. That is an expensive con.

The most Honest Review you’ll see! comparing a few pastille products.
As an aspiring singer, I saw “Grether’s pastilles” recommended by a famous singer. In my search I found Grether’s, but Dr.Doolittle’s popped up highly ranked (and a little cheaper) as well. I bought 3 things: Dr.Doolittle’s original blackcurrant (plastic bags, 6 bags, 4 per pack = 24 pieces = $10), Dr.Doolittle’s 4 flavor variety pack sugar free (maybe 4 pieces per bag? Can’t remember. ~16 =$6.55), and finally Grether’s sugar free blueberry tin (they don’t say how many but I’d guess maybe 25 pieces? = $17). First off, flavor is a big factor for me. I have very sensitive taste buds. The Dr.Doolittle sugar free flavored pack - absolute NO from me. They were hard, weird texture when chewed, and most of them left a minty taste in my mouth. I HATE MINT. But also, minty aftertaste on something like grapefruit or lime??? Not good. Not buying these again. BUT as for the question of Grether’s versus Dr.Doolittle’s (the original blackcurrant flavor at least) they were both great, but I think Dr.Doolittle’s did a bit better for me. I found that I would take Dr.Doolittle’s every 15 minutes or so, and I could really FEEL it working. Sorry to be gross: but yes, it produced a lot of saliva. These versions were soft and the flavor was good. I don’t count Grether’s out, because they do work as well, but I didn’t feel it working as much (saliva production) and it didn’t feel as obvious, so I felt the need to take them more frequently. Basically every 10 minutes or so. Flavor was barely noticeable to be honest. Not bad, but not as good as the blackcurrant. (Which for me is surprising. I would have thought I would have liked the sweeter berry flavor better, but maybe it’s the fact that Grether’s is sugar free? I really feel this is working against it). I went through what I bought rather quickly so I stocked up, buying both Grether’s sugar free blueberry and Dr.Doolittle’s classic blackcurrant again. I have Grether’s classic blackcurrant (not sugar free) in my cart for next time, so maybe I’ll update when I’ve tried those, but it won’t be for a while. NOW: if you want to know how they worked in terms of singing - phenomenal! Highly recommend! Clearer sound, less vibrato, and overall feel like I am easily hitting notes that are usually difficult for me. But like I said, effects are pretty short. But worth it? For me, absolutely! I also had a day where I wasn’t feeling good: wasn’t eating or drinking anything, but I kept popping (the Grether’s) just to keep my mouth from going dry. It’s weird to explain, but they did help in this odd scenario. They are advertised to dry mouth sufferers as well, so I think that’s YES, they would help you, if this is your aim. So, at this very moment, #1 Dr.Doolittle’s originals, #2 Grether’s sugar free blueberry, and removed from list: Dr.Doolittle’s sugar free anything. I honestly have really high hopes for Grether’s original, too. I think the sugar free part is just making them harder to chew and more unpleasant to eat (they don’t “melt” the same as the ones with sugar) and possibly that makes it so they don’t work as well? Like the sugar actually adds to the effect? Maybe I’m making it up in my mind. But that’s the most honest review you’re going to see out of these! hope this helps others like me!

Yes to these
Seems to work. I was told to use sugarfree lozenges for my dry vocal chords. Tried today before I gave a speech, and it worked, so I'll be ordering more. As a bonus, they have a very pleasant taste and texture...smooth gummies.

Nice natural candy, but chewy not hard candy
These are expensive, I know, but I just like them. I have tried the elderberry and now these. The flavor is natural and not chemical. However, you should know that they are chewy. Although advertised for throat and voice, they are not hard candies. I keep them by the piano and use sparingly, so although they are expensive they do last a long time. Given the cost, I definitely view them as one of those small personal treats I afford myself.

These things are magic! I came dow with a springtime chog about two months ago. I finally started clearing up by my voice was just ravaged. There were a couple of day I couldn't even talk. Throat wasn't sore, just hoarse. I found these and after just the first one my voice started coming back. Coincidence? Maybe, but the Grether's did soothe those rough edges off of my vocal cords. I'm keeping these on hand moving forward.
