Legend Of The Demon Cat

I was surprised to hear some say this was boring. I was 100% drawn into the film from beginning to end. I love and appreciate Chinese and Korean films/dramas. I love the richness in cinematography that a lot of Chinese films bring into their films. It provides a magical feeling to their dramas. It's an exotic world that I enjoy watching. I'm hooked.

I liked the story, even though the fast friendship between the two leads felt like it needed a little something more or that some scenes on how they got there were missing. I thought it was done well, visually moving with imagery/sets/designs to support it. Imagine my surprise to see a familiar profile, pair of lips and distinctive brow when I started watching this movie?! Haha His gorgeous movements and eyes (can't forget those lips) caught my eye and at once, I knew who it might be... but just in case wanted to see who this was among the Crane brothers. And it was Liu Hao Ran as Bai Long/ White Crane!! Now I feel the movie is too short to see one of my favorite actors performing and I want it to explore more about his character... or so I felt halfway in ;) *lips sealed*. I like international films and this was nicely done. So if you like them too, I recommend it - especially once you get to the end, I didn't expect it. I'm very pleased.

What a wonderful movie!I wasn't sure what to expect and given that the special effects are "good" to ok I didn't think I would be praising it as much as I want to.The visual/art design is absolutely incredible. It's a shame that they couldn't spend the money to bring it up to slightly higher standards with regards to the actual level of special effects. The acting is good and as the movie progresses the entire story becomes very intriguing. I was so taken with the movie I just bought the Bluray. I don't give it 5 stars because some of the special effects feel like "digital special effects" as opposed to having a natural feel where you don't notice they are created in a computer.Still, I highly recommend the film. It has subtitles so make sure you turn them on (if you are streaming from Amazon) or else they won't automatically show up.

I’m giving this movie 3 stars instead of 5 - it is just simply boring for the most part; it’s comparable to watching a wall of colorful paint dry. It would get 5 stars from me if I were to rate the technical features of this blu-ray disc alone. The picture quality is superb...it rivals that of 4k hd (I watched it on my 75” 4k TV) even though this is in bluray format. The costumes, set design and the Taiwanese actress who played the Concubine Yang were visually stunning. However, it’s a typical Chen Kaige film in that the narrative is lacking and all the focus seems to be on the aesthetics of the film. I really wanted to root for this film but it was just sooooooooooooooooooo boring that I wanted to cry out of disappointment (note: I watch A LOT of chinese movies in addition to Hollywood stuff, and I was not entertained by this movie’s storyline). I understand that it’s based off of a Japanese novel or comics but still, Kaige should learn to pick better source material to based his films on. His earlier film, The Promise, had similar flaws - all looks but little substance.

While this is not the first movie where there could have been some quality checking on the English subtitles; but even with that I absolutely loved this movie! The visuals are stunning and the Dolby Atmos sound quality was amazing on our home theater.I have been a mystery story fan since childhood and I found this movie to be an engaging story that took time to unravel. Which ultimately reveals a story of love, loss and sacrifice with a touch of betrayal. The main characters had to get past historical mis-information that had turn the story into legend, as well as, deal with their own biases to find out the truth of what really had happened.

This is a movie one either loves or hate. There's not likely to be neutral or luke-warm feelings for this. It is an abstract movie about a cat possessed by the spirit of an ancient courtier, wrongly buried alive, and now comes seeking revenge against the 3rd generation of the villains. The costome and dances are lovely, and might well sway one's opinion about the movie even if the idea of a demonic cat is anathema to all reason. There are some fight scenes, but not the regular kungfu or swordfight stuff - anyway, how does one fight a cat spirit?

This movie was simply amazing. I was riveted the entire time. The mystery, danger, and love were perfectly balanced. The pacing was great. I am very glad I bought this movie because I will be showing it to everyone and re watching it many times throughout the years.

I will talk about the movie first, I loved the story and the direction. This was in, of course, subtitles. The scenery and the costumes are stunning. This was a very beautiful film, big recommendations.

Like someone else said, there's a bit at the end missing which is important to the monk's story but there's also about 7 minutes missing from about the 54 minute mark which adds context to the ending. Too bad; otherwise an excellent film.
