Amazing performances from everyone in the film, good direction, beautiful cinematography

I know that Hollywood takes liberties sometimes, but this movie is accurate.

Great movie, great humor. A must watch for anyone thinking of joining the Military (pro tip go to the Navy or Airforce). There are some exaggerations but it is one of the more realistic war movies out there. Stuff like the Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, and American Sniper are completely unrealistic. This is how the Marine Corps is, and the Army to some extent. It's insanely boring, you are treated like a child, endlessly waiting for something to happen, and Jody is banging your girl back home.

First, this is no Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, or Full Metal Jacket so don’t go in expecting a war movie like that. Most of the movie centers on the training and relationships between the the guys in the squad, and the few war scenes are pretty muted and occur more toward the end, which is quick and fairly anti-climactic and a bit of a letdown. It’s mostly very well done for what it is, and the acting and characters are both solid, but most of the movie just deals with drama, which I wasn’t expecting. I’d give the movie more like 3 stars and the acting/characters a 5, so on balance I’m giving it 4 stars. Worth watching if you’re up for a war movie that’s mostly drama.

Well acted and evocative of the sort of boredom-to-horror transitions Marines endure in the field, this film is interesting but constructed oddly. It mostly consists of a series of events strung together almost like vignettes. They hit all the usual training humiliations on the numbers, but once they are deployed, the sequence of the events is not particularly important for the most part and that element, along with the lead character's fantasizing, which is shown as daydreams that look just like reality but quirkier, make it all seem a little awkward and random. There are amazing visual moments, painful dramatic moments, pragmatic and plebian daily daily moments and great acting all the way through. I just found the lack of cohesion a little off-putting and the ending feels like something that was tacked on a year later: it's so distanced from the rest of the movie that I almost wished I'd shut the film off before that last act. They also don't push the daydreaming far enough--it's almost incidental and not used enough in either advancing the character or creating an escape for him, so it seems unneeded. Funny, but unneeded. Overall, an interesting view but not an earthshaking one.

these were some of the bravest men i have ever seen in a war movie. although they did act like kids sometime, i guess that was one way of relieving stress and all the tension buildup. that is a great movie, and i have watched it many times. Thanks John Walker

Aceptable

J'ai reçu ce Bluray après au moins 1 mois d'attente et en plus dans un état déplorable. Pochette abîmé à l'arrière comme "griffé et arraché", Bluray pas emballé, certainement pas neuf comme indiqué dans l'annonce. Publicité mensongère ? J'ai envie de dire oui. Je ne recommande pas.
