H.B. Smith Tools Grass Shears for Lawn and Garden

These are great.. BUT I wish I had read the other reviews! The lock button is SO FRUSTRATING __every time you cut, it locks. Ugh! Because I don’t go out much now because of the coronavirus, I’m going to keep these. My fix was I jammed a toothpick into the hole and broke it off to prevent it from locking. They will just have to stay open in my shed. I wrapped them in a towel to prevent grabbing the blade in error. I’m surprised the company hasn’t read the reviews and fixed this obvious design flaw. Other than that, they are great. They’re sharp and do the job very effectively. They are a very good deal if you can find your own way to work around the locking problem!

While I was excited about the fact that you can pivot the ends to change the angle of the blades in respect to the grips, I found that that same mechanism prevents them from properly keeping the blades together when closing when there is some resistance. It seemed sufficient for cutting a few pieces of grass with no tough stems. My main reason for the purchase was to replace the grass shears that I've used the last 15 years to trim back my irises each fall, but these shears just laughed at my attempt to do so with the blades separating over a quarter inch passing over the leaves as it just pushed them over against the other blade.

With the advent of landscapers it is harder to find the tools of the trade for home gardeners. This is a nifty grass shear that can be used in 2 positions. It has replaced a 50+ year old pair.

I'm not sure when it became acceptable to sell a product in this condition. I'll make sure not to buy from H.B Smith again! If I could select 0 stars I would have!!!

Not even close to comfortable. Blades arrived less than sharp, so I figured maybe a safety concern? But they DID cut grass— just a VERY tortuous grip and labor intensive.

On first use, the spring broke. Since we hadn't used it before the window for returns was closed, we're out the money.
