Buck Rogers in the 25th Century: The Complete Remastered Series (Limited Edition)

The art work is amazing, the picture and sound quality is also amazing. These DVDs brought Buck, Twiki and the rest of these amazing characters back to life. I would highly recommend this set for any Buck Rogers fan.

Growing up during the 70s tv shows we’re trying to capitalize on the Star Wars phenomenon. Battlestar Galactica was a serious well intended effort but frankly got confusing for anyone under 13 years old.I being a 8 year old Star Wars crazed nut found Buck Rogers in the Twenty Fifth century and was hooked! The costumes were bright and colorful and the characters interesting! Tweeky the droid voiced by the amazing Mel Blanc created a comedic atmosphere in the story and side kick. Wilma was beautiful (even today 😉) stories were simple but also really good!And Buck was a cool guy like Han Solo in Star Wars with a Six Million Dollar Lee Majors look.And the special effects for its time were good! This blu ray set is a must have for the fan of this era.

I did not have a chance to watch this show back in the day when it was on TV as I was just about 5 years-old and it did not air in my country (Turkey). But given that I am inclined to enjoy the sci-fi shows from that era, I decided to purchase this. I kind of knew that it was not up to the par with Star Trek. It is probably more similar to Battlestar Galactica which was also produced by Glen A. Larson. Blu-ray picture quality is excellent and so is the audio. Too bad it does not have subtitles. It really bothers me that they do not include subtitles with some of the Blu-ray releases. Another minor complaint is regarding the packaging. It is designed differently from all the other box sets that I own. It is a flat box where two Blu-ray cases are inserted side by side. The box is not made of very cheap material but it is not a strong sturdy box set material that are typically used in box sets. The box is covered from all sides, so you need to open the tab from the side to remove the Blu-ray cases. If you maintain your Blu-ray cases inside the box, the piece where you open the box will wear out pretty badly in time. Also, due to the shape of the box, it is not easy to place it in your bookcase because if you place it standing up it is a long box and will take a lot of space. I wish they designed it like some of the other box sets with a thick and sturdy material and open from one side to make it easier to take out the Blu-ray cases.

I had forgotten how athletic Gil Gerard was. How fun of an actor he is to watch. How sexy all the women were. And how gloriously beautiful their costumes were too! And don’t forget the humorous sidekick Tweeky. This was great storytelling! When you were given a story with a solid plot, full of action and with a positive moral tale to tell. I know most people would say the special effects are outdated but I don’t find them jarring at all. It was awesome special effects for the time. And because the storytelling was soo good you don’t really notice or care that the special effects are from the 80’s. Versus today’s shows which are all about cgi special effects, used to mask the crappy storytelling full of propaganda that has created a bunch of unhappy miserable people. Man, I miss the 80’s.

I remember seeing this show when it was on network television couldn’t remember but about it so I thought it would bring back some fun memories for me. I didn’t really remember anything about it so it was like looking at it for the first time it had a decent production value, but they could’ve used a little bit of work on the script and the special effects and ships. If you’re familiar with Battlestar Galactica, you can see it it’s nice for a fun little distraction so enjoy.

Good quality and fun to watch

The version I received came all in English and in the Extra Wide box (pictured) but I only paid $38.55 which looks like the PAL version. And I don't remember which one I clicked on when I bought it.Anyway, this review is for the one that comes in a wide box with English writing on it.I did not watch the theatrical version for the pilot which is says in in Standard Definition so I can't comment on that either. I watched the 4:3 aspect TV pilot version.I am definitely giving this 5 stars because I'm on about episode 5 now an I can say the bluray picture quality of everything I've watched so far is absolutely incredible!! The original negative must have been perfectly stored and the new HD scan and color is top notch. It's like like watching a brand new show! Very, very sharp and crisp with rich colors. Very nice!

This will play in a Blu-ray player from the U.S. Some have noted an issue with the SD content not playing. With my player, purchased in 2017, it does. While I haven't gone through every single disc, what I've seen so far works.This show looks great, as in it looks like what was on the film negative. Oh sure you can see the set seams and the wobbly rubber props, but that's high resolution.This now sits on my shelf with the 1979 Battlestar Galactica Blu-rays.I do think it would be nice if a U.S. version of Buck Rogers was issued at this resolution, however I don't expect them to add much else in terms of features. Certainly not the kind of things we saw on the BSG with their extended scenes / outtakes.

Fun memories of 40+ years ago. Have this on VHS. Recently unearthed it and decided on video replacement therapy.
