I like this cacao powder a lot. It has a nice dark color and rich flavor. Price is reasonable for organic and I feel like the quality is there. Overall great buy.

High Quality Cocoa Powder, but What Country is it From?
I've been using cocoa powder and brown sugar to make hot chocolate every morning for a few years now. I use one once of cocoa powder (28 grams) and about 50 grams of brown sugar in two cups of milk...delicious and loaded with antioxidants. The quality of this cocoa powder itself is of very high. It's the origin I'm concerned about. I usually order 5lb bags of pure cocoa powder. Most brands do list the country of origin directly on the bag. For example, one brand I was buying for some time listed the country of origin as the Dominican Republic. Another brand, which I just switched to, lists Peru as the country of origin. This brand, Z Natural Foods, however, does not list the country of origin of the contents anywhere on the bag. This makes me suspicious. Perhaps the country of origin of this cocoa powder is a country which is politically sensitive and unpopular, a dictatorship. I don't know. But the fact that Z Natural Foods avoids naming the country of origin anywhere on the bag is not a good sign. Under "Product Details" on the amazon entry for this product, the country of origin is listed as USA. This is for sure false, since cocoa beans are not produced anywhere in the United State. There is nowhere in the United States that has a suitable climate for the commercial cultivation of coca beans. The Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Indonesia are the top producers of cocoa beans in the world, but several other African nations, as well as South American nations, produce significant quantities of cocoa too. This cocoa powder might be ground and/or packaged in the United States, but it is not produced in this country.
