Works with (crappy) State Select water heaters!
I have a 2007 State Select 50 Gallon hot water heater. Natural Gas. Model number GS650YBRT It is VERY difficult to find the exact part (pilot assembly) that also matches the part number (9006666015) for this unit. I took a leap of faith and bought this part since I could detect no difference in the physical appearance of the unit and the price seemed reasonable enough to make a possible mistake. As it turned out this part was EXACTLY the part I needed. It even came with a replacement batting seal. I hooked it up. Fired up the pilot and whoosh! Back in the game baby! After 6 days of cold showers I nearly cried tears of joy as the warm water washed over me. I took a star because all of these pilot assemblies have the same fatal flaw. A thin wire that is soldered onto a sensor that detects whether the pilot is lit or functioning properly. (That little round thing connected to the copper tubing) These are abnormally prone break apart. (Due to excessive heat...really?!?) Sometimes it can simply be soldered back on. (Which I had done previously, prior to the catastrophic failure of the same part) So be aware that it may last for 6 years or more but eventually that part will fail and leave you cold, sad and with a family that no longer respects you as a man. Since it's fixed for the time being, I'm going to start saving up for a better brand of water heater. *Force choke --> pilot assembly* You have failed me for the last time.

Was happy that its fit perfectly for the state brand heater
Mine came with a defective pilot gas line. I had to remove my old one and swap it out with the new one to getting working.

AO Smith compatible
It took a while to find this. My AO Smith Promax GVC-40-101 hot water heater pilot kept going out. This is no stock item that Lowes sells. It has a small device that is soldered into the thermocouple. You must replace the entire unit. The problem is when you Google your product number, you aren't going to find anything. After searching, I found on Amazon this pilot that looked the same. I researched the heater "Alliance" and found they are produced by AO Smith. I took the chance and it's nearly an exact fit. The only thing that is different is the length of the pilot tubing and the thermocouple tubing. With a few careful S bends you will get this in no problem. The end that does the work is the exact fit. The kit that I ordered came with EVERYTHING, including a gasket, and the lint filters. My heater did not have these, but I Will save them forever, just in case I ever need them... I should just toss them now..The numbers on my heater are Item 9211701001The control unit is a 182792-000This was an easy fix, and cheap to do. If you are going to do it yourself, make sure you shut off the gas, and the nut that connects the burner, "the large one" is a left handed thread. Usually marked or plated red.Good luck!

I have a Year 2007, 71 gallon A.O. Smith Water Heater. The thermocouple fails which causes the pilot light goes out. Upon close inspection, there is a little resistor that barely touching the wire and eventually fell out. If your resistor has a crack or fail to make contact with the wire, this is most likely the problem of your heater's pilot light fails to stay on. The whole process took less than 30 minutes to replace. Once again, fast shipping from Amazon save the day!

great hard to find product
I did a lot of research and found this part by reading a previous review on this website. This assembly worked with my A.O. Smith water heater. The install was relatively easy and it's pretty much failsafe as the angle of the thermocouple is fixed as part of the assembly. The only downside was that the problem was the gas valve so I ended replacing the entire water heater.

zactly what it was and needed to be. fixed my sister's water heater! Of course I had purchased a Mastech MS8268 MS8261 Series Digital AC/DC Auto/Manual Range Digital Multimeter, through Amazon which helped diagnose the problem, which was a broken contact to the thermocouple that is part of this purchase.
