Black's Law Dictionary: Second Edition

Very good information inspirational and great for the learning mind..

It was in "fair" shape.It has unique definitions for specific words I needed to define in a court situation (which didn't do anything to aid me).. But it is in fair shape if I need to sell it at some point, or give as a gift..It came on time.

This review is for the kindle version of Black's law dictionary (Kindle Fire) and not Black's law dictionary itself. The kindle version is impossible to use. The text is completely jumbled with no spaces in between definitions, making them all run together. In addition there is no way to search other than the text search on the kindle, making it very difficult and time consuming to find the definition that you are looking for.

This is the 2nd Edition and as such it is over 100 years old. Many of the definitions are badly outdated and laws as well as case law have changed dramatically since its publication. If you are a law student you need to buy the current edition of Black's Law Dictionary. Using the 2nd edition for school will only hurt you in your studies. I have the 6th edition at home which was the 100 year anniversary of the books publication and the book I used in law school. The preface states that there were over 5,000 definition changes to reflect the state of case law from the 5th edition. I could not begin to guess how many changes there has been since the 2nd edition was published and the publication of the 10th edition. If you are doing historical research this is a great book to learn the legal mind and state of the law in 1910.

I received it today along with other items I ordered, and when I opened the box I was stunned as it looked like the book had just been chucked in, able to move/bang around inside the box, no cushioning to protect corners or anything. I was disappointed as it would seem logical and most courteous of the vendor to package a book of this size and price tag, in such a way as to prevent dents or damage. The top outer corners of the cover and one bottom corner of the book binding look to have suffered slightly. I thought the overall hardcover might be thicker to ensure durabiity over time in accommodating over 1300 pages. I hope it will hold up. Inside the book, it looks great and am already searching many terms. When opened, the dictionary lays flat, nicely, easy to read, decent outer margins and spacing between entries for easy of reading. Thanks for the swift delivery, but may I recommend to package this book up with greater care!
