Ultimate Dollar

For me, it's all about the music and the artwork/packaging is of secondary importance, but I also know that for many people this does matter, so this review is meant to address this.First of all, let me say that I am not a huge Dollar fan, so I did find the gushing hyperbole written by one, Alan Connor, in the accompanying booklet rather hilarious. If you believe him, Dollar were single-handedly responsible for changing the entire Pop landscape!Other problems I found were that the CD's do sit quite snugly in their cardboard cutouts when you attach them yourself, but my Box arrived with four CD's having come loose in transit and rattling around. Thankfully, no damage was done. And the Box itself is thick and sturdy, but it almost creates a kind of vacuum seal when you close it, so opening it again can be a bit of a struggle.I must confess that I haven't listened to any of the CD's yet - there's a lot of material to wade through here - but the other Amazon reviews cover this well enough. What I can say with confidence is the accompanying booklet (minus Alan Connor's "analysis") is absolutely superlative.Thankfully, there's very little comment from David Van Day (who I'm sure is a lovely person, but he has had somewhat of a chequered history to put it mildly, and gives every impression of being rather difficult to work with), but it's the input from Thereza Bazar which is truly eye-opening.She writes with great passion, insight and enthusiasm about music, as a performer, producer and fan, and the impression I took away was that she was the great artistic driving force between them (apologies if I am doing David Van Day's obvious contribution a disservice here).I was so impressed by her clearly obvious love of music, that I promptly went and bought her one and only solo album, purely because I wanted to hear what she sounded like without David's input. It might not be as good as Dollar's material, possibly due to the fact that their different personalities created personal and artistic friction, but also the magical synergy that comes with collaboration.If you're a casual fan, then this Box's weighty content and heightened price probably isn't for you, you'd be better off with the complementary shorter 2-disc edition that Cherry Red also released around the same time. But you'd be missing out on the wonderful booklet which gives great background detail and insight into their mindset and creative process.If you're a committed fan, then that's worth the price of the Box alone, all the accompanying music (and DVD) is just the icing on the cake.

I have been waiting for an eternity for the ultimate Dollar collection. The packaging starts the journey before you have even opened the box, when you do, you are presented with a superb booklet giving lots of information about the group, songs & videos. Then you have the excitement of choosing what you want to hear first...for me it was the DVD, I loved Dollar for the visual journey they took me on as well as the songs and the videos are just superb. Equaly, the music speaks for itself. This is one collection that will surely satisfy the most demanding Dollar fan. I would definitely recommend this to buy, you will be pleasantly surprised at some of the goodies on offer in respect of the remixes.

I asked for and got "The Dollar Album" back in Christmas 1982 so have been a bit of a fan ever since then.I bought this mainly to get the DVD and haven't been disappointed.I actually think I prefer Thereza's Brunette look back in the early videos.The quality on most of the videos is very good, far better than you would ever get from VHS.It is also nice to have all the CDs and extras but the Videotheque experience is what gets it five stars from me.

This is a great box set containing their 3 studio albums, the first time on CD for the debut album. Also contains the singles made for Arista and London. Also a dvd of a selection of promo videos and TV ads and Clips. The Jewel in the box set Is the Dollar Album, their best work, with a complimentary cd of remixes containing the 4 singles with Trevor Horn. This really is the complete Dollar, with a newly discovered track. The only disappointment is the quality of the packaging. The Artwork is great but really lacks a final gloss finish that would have finished the project off properly ( but don’t let that small issue put you off getting this well thought through box set).

I have great love for Dollar’s music as they were part of the soundtrack to my childhood. The Remix album of this Dollar set is worth the money alone. The DVD reminded me how cute Therese dance moves were with her little page boy hair cut bouncing in time to the beat. There is a great spectrum of pop production on here from the seventies through to the present day remixes. I loved it all and even as a fan, hadn’t truly appreciated how hard they had worked to evolve their sound over time. Nor did I realise that they wrote much if not most of their own material. Hats off to this underrated duo. I don’t think Sonya will be buying a copy somehow.

So much still missing regarding TV appearances etc. But it's a beautiful box set and once again Cherry pop does us proud.

This is a remarkable package put together by Cherry PopClassic pop tunes from Dollar,together with some rather cheesy videos of their hits,take you back to happy times.David and Thereza had the chemistry,and with perfect pop tunes,provided the ideal combinationHighly recommended

Dollars three studio albums are all well produced fine fine pop music. Who where you with in the moonlight, Shooting star, Radio, The girls are out to get ya ,Videotheque, Hand held in black and white and the epic 12 inch version non album singel We walked in love. This box is so long awaited for fans, i cant recomand this boxset enough, do yourself a favour and buy it as long as its avaible.simply stunning.
