He can never seem to get comfortable and he constantly moves from one spot to the ...
I bought this for my dog, who's ten years old and seems to get achy and sore in the winter time. Unfortunately, he digs at it to move it out of the way and then lays beside it. I thought I would probably just return it, and then my mother-in-law brought her older dog over. He can never seem to get comfortable and he constantly moves from one spot to the other but he went right over to this pad on the floor and laid there all evening! He loved it so much that I had her take it home. He tends to shiver a lot in the winter so she has to keep a sweater on him and he hates it. Since she's had this pad, he lays on it all the time and no longer has to wear a sweater in the house. It makes a little bit of a crunching noise (like a plastic bag makes when you move it) but if your dog or cat gets chilly, and doesn't mind the noise, they'll love this mat!

Good for an older rabbit
I have a senior rabbit with arthritis and I got this so he can lay on something warm and comfortable. He really likes it and uses it a lot.

My three cats won't use it even though it's cold out
I have 3 cats that live indoors but in an area that isn't heated or air-conditioned. In the winter, they're obviously warm enough on all but the coldest days, and I give them a heater on the worst days. But I thought they'd like this thermal mat on the borderline nights. It's a nice, fluffy material and doesn't smell--to a human nose, at least. I took it out to my cats, who usually like my store-bought presents. They sniffed it. They stepped on it, were surprised by the crinkling noise, and stepped off. I explained what it was to my cat who understands English. So she stepped on again and went to the center of the mat...and just stood with her feet all bunched together in one spot. After about a minute, she jumped off. After two weeks, she's the only cat I've seen step on it after that first day.She sometimes sat on it a few minutes the first week, but I've never seen her lie down on it. I haven't even seen her sitting on it this week. It's January, and we're getting our cold nights. I don't see fur building up on it like their regular sleep spots. I doubt they're using it much, if at all. They all hated it on a soft surface and would move it off their couch. One cat will step on it when it's on a solid surface, but it gets moved when I put it on or near their solid-surface lounging areas. I tried sitting on it to see if it even worked. It's more of a thermal barrier than a self-heating mat. I didn't feel like I was sitting down on a cold surface, but it never actually felt warming. If they ever get over their dislike of the crinkle sounds, it should be a decent cat bed, but it's not working like I'd hoped.

Cant get the cat off of it
We bought two of these based on good reviews. We have a couple of cats that live in the garage and it gets down to 60ish out there at night. We also have a big fat old male cat that lives indoors. The two girls out in the garage took to it immediately and even sleep together on it, which says a lot because they dont really like each other! The male cat was a little concerned about it at first due to the crinkling sound. But I put it on the table next to the window where he likes to sleep and then noticed about 3/4 through the day that I hadnt seen him. Right on the pad. He usually comes down and watches tv with me at night and sleeps on my head, but he decided to stay on his pad most of the time and sleeps there now.Which is a major plus, since having a 20-something pound cat sleeping on your head isnt the greatest thing in the world.I've washed them in our front loader on delicate/handwash and they came out clean but the fabric holds plenty of fur. Hung them out to dry per the instructions, which didnt take long. These are nice for reflected heat without electricity. Perfect for indoors and milder climates. While it'd be better than nothing for outdoor/feral cats during northern winter weather, I think you really need something that plugs in for those applications. We have a pair of the 6 watt pet bed heaters on a big, thin cardboard box with a thick towel over them and the thermal mat on top of the towel in between the heated pet bed pads. The girls switch between the electrically heated pads and the thermal bed. Total of 12 watts to keep them warm and comfortable is a pretty low price to pay. We'd been using a heating pad on low, but the thermal pet bed heaters use less electricity and have much thicker plastic covers so claws have a harder time penetrating.

Great Thermal Mat
It's getting to be chilly where I am but I don't want to leave my heat on all day while I'm gone. But I also don't want my poor cats to freeze. I was going to get an electric blanket for them but I was worried about them playing with the cord. This thermal blanket is a great alternative. My cats area fan of that brown packing paper so I knew the noise factor of this mat wouldn't bother them. They actually use it as a toy as well trying to catch the "noisy critter" that they believe is hiding under the mat. They both have taken to it quickly and it does get nice and warm for them. They are both still kittens so it's large enough for them to share for now but I wish it were a bit bigger so that I wouldn't have to get a second one once they are grown.

Simple, inexpensive, probably effective
Before purchasing this mat I cosidered a heated, electric pad, but after reading some decidedly mixed reviews of those I decided to give this one a try - it was inexpensive enough to risk lack of acceptance from my cat. At first my cat did not want to sit on it. When I put the mat on her favorite chair, she would avoid that chair; when I placed her on it, she would jump right off. However, after a couple of days I noticed her sleeping on that mat. Now it appears to be her favorite place. She is a "whole house cat" (and outdoor, too) so I see her sleeping in various places, but she really seems to like this mat. I guess it is just a matter of patience - cats are curious and will eventually discover what's comfortable.

My cat approves!
My fussy cat really likes this so far. My hope is that she will prefer this self-heating mat instead of seeking the warmth from the satellite receiver, but only time will tell! It's a good deal and well made, so I will likely buy another for the barn cats.

THESE REALLY WORK!
I purchased these to go inside a feral cat shelter. They totally work. Some days we'll find 3 cats snuggled up together on one. Holding your hand on it feels warm, even though there is no heat source. I plan on purchasing more of these for other shelters. Anything to help these little guys out.
