A must have for all classic rock lovers!!! Its time we get to hear Britains best kept secret!!!!
One of Rock & Rolls biggest mystery's! Why didn't "SLADE" ever make it big in the U.S. ? They are the only band other than the Beatles to have scored 3 consecutive number one hits upon release in Britain! They have scored 33 top 30 hits in Britain! John Lennon hearing Slade in the studio said " I love that blokes voice, he sounds like me." a very Lennon thing to say! Ozzy Ozbourne said " Noddy Holder has one of the greatest rock & roll voices of all time - there will never be anyone quite like him or Slade!" Gene Simmons of KISS said " We modeled our whole attack style after Slade they were our greatest influence!." Other rock stars to give Slade high regards are Alice Cooper, Paul McCartney, The Sex Pistols, The Jam , Boomtown Rats & the list goes on! Quiet Riot scored a number one hit in the U.S. with Cum on Feel the Nioze a full decade after Slade hit the charts with it in Britain! No one knows why they didn't break out in America...I think it was a cosmic cry out from their U.K. fans saying " We shared our Beatles our Stones , The Who, Pink Floyd , Led Zeppelin & Black Sabbath...Your not getting our SLADE!!!!" It is indeed a mystery why America didn't embrace this band! Slade's music is on par with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones or any of the other classic rock band! Well here is your chance to get to hear a great rock & roll band comprised of four great guys!!!! The box set comes with a nice book that gives you a nice story of where Slade came from & how they became a national treasure in England!! This box set basically spans four decades of hits! And if you love classic rock it is worth every penny!!! The booklet is full of interesting information about each member. I will never forget the story of how power house drummer Don Powell tragically nearly died in a car crash leaving him with permanent amnesia! On stage his band mates would mimic the beat to help him remember songs he had played a hundred times but couldn't remember. Or the time he woke up in a panic not remembering where he was & ran out naked , Imagine the surprise when the front desk manager of the hotel was confronted by this bare naked well muscled man wearing a "Do Not Disturb!" sign dangling from his privates! asking "Where Am I ?" & more unnerving "Who Am I?" The members of this band are unique & endearing but it is the music in this box set that really tells the tale!!! All killer no Filler!!!!!!!

One Great Set
I had this in my wishlist for awhile only because I didn't have the extra money to spend at the time I had found it. I had viewed youtube videos of live performances and went looking for a compilation. This is it. If you wonder whether you should get this, the answer is: yes. I had only had Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply from the time they had hit in America. I knew that Quiet Riot had used some of their songs to launch their career. I was amazed that after QR had made it big that it didn't expose more Slade in the US.You'll catch yourself wanting to sing along with the chorus' as they come up. You can see the crowds singing along at the concerts. This compilation covers the beginning to the end very chronologically as many comps don't. Ending with Universe which was their last release. I recently was playing it at low volume when a friend was riding with me, and he didn't like it. This is a good thing because he is a very narrow minded person and is only interested in his own musical genre, which is very limited. The price is very good for the amount of music you receive. The booklet that comes with it is a great compliment. As of this writing, I currently have disc 4 in my truck player and this set has been what I've been toggling back and forth with the radio for over a month.

Really great band, great discs
I had a couple of Slade platters in the early - mid '70s. I believe they were "Stomp Your Hands, Clap Your Feet" and "Slayed" both of which I liked to play loud. But I had forgotten about the band until I was talking to an old high school buddy who thanked me for turning him onto the band. Man, am I glad he tweaked my memory!Noddy Holder's voice is unique and one you'll never forget. Their music has its own sound, one that makes you (or me, anyway) want to kick up the volume just a notch or two and sing along. Their songs range from hard driving rock to ballads to just fun, goofy lyrics. The discs themselves are good quality remasters with good depth and clarity, not flat or tinny like you find on many box sets. They cover the band from roughly 1970-1990.Slade has become one of my favorite 'go-to' bands again and I play their music when I'm out hiking, working in the shop or riding the Harley. Thanks for the memory!
