Works awesome with a heavy sledge hammer.

Works like it should. Very easy. Very efficient for making kindling wood.

Pretty good and happy with purchase. Wish it had more clearance for larger pieces of wood.
Overall, I'm happy with this. It does what it said it would do. It absolutely helps with prepping kindling, and although I use it in conjunction with another kindling splitter (I've started using this to help split slightly larger pieces then use my other one for smaller splits), you could probably get by with just this. The design is simple, effective, and durable. I have had this for almost two years, and it is still rock solid. I do, however, wish the build were a bit longer, because sometimes when I try to use it with longer pieces of wood, the wood gets kind of stuck/wedged. But all things considered, this is a good product, and I am happy I bought it.

Perfect for making KINDLING, like in the name, kindling splitter.
This is for kindling, kindling, not splitting logs! Lot of people give bad reviews, but for the wrong reason. They are using it wrong! You need to have your wood split! This saves a ton of time to make kindling. I recently won a Mesa XL Solo Stove in a raffle. You need very small pieces of wood for this thing. I tried to use an ax and hit with a mini sledge and it took forever to split one piece of wood into kindling. After I got this, I split, (an already split piece of wood) into several pieces of kindling in seconds. I used a mini sledge hammer. I screwed this down on an unsplit piece of wood so would set up higher and be stable. After I used this to make the kindling, I used my battery powered circular saw to cut the kindling into small chunks to fit into the solo stove. If you use kindling, this is a time saver!

Still Trying to Learn How
I certainly like the sturdiness of the construction, the weight of it, the welding. The concept is good. Lots of strikes, though, per split. I tried this out on some seasoned logs I had, wanting to see if I could split them down further for kindling. Using a 4# mallet, I had a lot of trouble getting through even a few pieces. Mainly, I plan to use this item for splitting my kindling from scrap construction lumber. I can use a lighter hammer, and the results are pretty good. Still, sometimes I need to strike the wood several times per pieces. Also, when hitting the wood, sometimes the hammer will tweak the upward-facing blade. This nicks the blade and requires filing. I mounted the item on solid wood blocks so I can stand upright when using it.

Works Great!!
My sons and I tried out this kindling splitter this past Father's Day weekend, and we loved it! We were camping at a great campground which, despite its appeal, is notorious for selling firewood that is not properly seasoned. I bought some of this dubious wood and tested the kindling splitter. I was amazed to find that it performed admirably. Using a 4-pound sledgehammer, my sons and I made short work of a lot of wood that used to take so much longer trying to baton with a hatchet. Some reviewers report that the blade is dull; yes it is, and I believe that's the point, because a sharp, thin blade would not split as well and make the wood stick. This blade is dull and wider than an axe or hatchet blade, and the opposing wings below the blade actually push the wood apart. Our neighbor at a nearby site let us use a few pieces of his properly seasoned wood and it only took a swing or two for the wood to fly apart cleanly. One hazard is missing or hitting the wood so hard that when it splits, the hammer strikes the blade, causing a ding; this has already happened to us but it did not seem to affect the performance at all. If necessary, a file could correct any dings and nicks. I wish I had this splitter years ago! Highly recommended.

Mediocre at best - design could stand several improvments
Bought this one after the one I actually wanted got cancelled. The design could stand a few improvements. First, it is definitely too short, it could stand to be about 10 inches taller. It works well on very short pieces but anything that is over 10 inches long has a difficult time splitting. If you are splitting wood that normally splits clean like birch it would work fine for longer pieces, but if you try to split something like oak that does not split clean, then it is not very good. The second improvement is the two welded side pieces that are designed to push the pieces apart. Again, if you are splitting very small pieces, this works, but if you try to split anything bigger than 3 or so inches, the log gets stuck. The pieces should have been welded horizontally and angled at a 45 degree angle towards the ground and then it would work much better. I am probably going to return this as it is a bit disappointing. Other than that, if you are splitting very tiny and small diameter pieces, it works great.

Splitter
Love it, great for splitting small wood like old furniture scraps like I use for kindling

I am using this with a 4lb mallet on dry cedar pieces with a diameter of 8-10 in. max. which is precisely what I bought it for. I wouldn't go any larger than that or use it as my primary log splitter on harder woods. Using it in the way I described it however... It's GREAT! I blast through the pieces with ease making 3-4 inch pieces and then switch to a normal carpenters hammer to make slender little kindling pieces 1-2 inches across. The design is very effective. You can cut right through modest size knots (about the width of your middle finger) with ease in a way that would be difficult or impossible with a hatchet. I recommend using all four screw holes into a thigh high chopping log for stability. Wear safety glasses and gloves. Once the log is seated on the edge with a couple light taps, take your hand away! I hone it occasionally with a single edged metal file. It's super ez and kinda fun to use. Throw an audiobook on while your chopping and 2 hours later you'll wonder where the time went! Very good product. Very satisfied.

Love this gadget! It's so much safer and easier to use than chopping kindling with a small hatchet. You can also be more precise about where you're placing your cuts. BTW, it is, as the title says, a kindling splitter, NOT a log splitter. I think the advertising copy is perhaps a little misleading, 'cause no one is going to split big pieces of wood with this thing.

The product does work well, but you want to use smaller logs based on the first ten or so I split for kindling. Mounting it would be a good idea. You can just use it on the ground, but it does move around a bit (making it a little less safe to use).

This item works great. Splits big logs as well as making kindling. I would recommend this to anyone.
