Why I ordered this item: I do a lot of rockhounding and I wanted a proper way to ID stuff instead of guessing based on youtube videos. This kit has the picks that go from talc all the way up to corundum I think, so it covers most of what I find. Likes: * The case is snazzy. It's got a little foam insert with a slot for each pick so nothing rattles around in your bag. * I ran it on a chunk of quartz I had sitting on my desk and it scratched exactly where it was supposed to. * The picks feel good in your hand, not flimsy like I thought a bunch of little metal rods would be. * Labeling on each pick is clear so you're not squinting to figure out which one is which mid-test. * For the price this is a pretty crazy good value if you need something more precise than a butter knife and a coin. No likes: * A couple of the lower hardness picks (the softer ones) wear down fast if you're testing anything gritty. One of mine already looks a little chewed up. * No real instructions included. If you don't already know the Mohs scale by number you're stuck googling it. * The case latch feels a little screwy, it doesn't snap shut with much confidence. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes Final thoughts: It's good for hobbyists or anyone doing field ID work who wants something a step up from junk drawer testing. Just don't expect a manual in the box, you'll want to know your scale going in.

I like that these have a wide range of testing hardness. At first I didn't think it really mattered to have the lower range but after I received them I have used them almost all the time. I think they were priced in the mid range and I think it was a fair price. They are well made and they are definitely worth the money. They are easy to use and so happy I have them.

This is a great kit and really has helped me to identify a lot of minerals that I have found, at least within .5 accuracy. Unfortunately, it is the only game in town so you will over pay for it if you want it. This kit should sell for about, maybe, $80.00 tops. However, it does the job and, hopefully over time, I can justify the cost by the amount of use that I get out of it. It did arrive missing a magnet that was supposed to be included. That and the cost caused me to deduct a star from the rating. Hopefully some competition will arrive to get the price down to a more realistic level.

Fantastic product.

I have landed several jobs, just by showing the customer how hard the surfaces were, and also helps us to use the right stones for the hardness of the concrete. When your stones cost over $500/ set, saving 1 set of stones pays for itself.

Works as described. Makes rock identification simpler. The carry case makes it simpler to take on a rockhounding adventure. I recommend this product.

Awesome kit with all that you need to do the Mohs hardness testing on rocks and minerals. Comes all packed into a nice sturdy plastic box with instructions. I haven’t tried it out yet so I will come back and add to this review once I have full test each scribing tool.
