Good book for kids
Good to read to little kids...not too gory or scary.

I would give this book infinite stars if I could!!
I love, LoVe, LOVE this book!! It was a favorite when I was a child (70's), and I recently spent months trying to find it. (All I had to go on were memories and an old page torn from my original copy that, for some reason, my mother still had.) I am so thrilled to have found TWO hardcover library copies here on Amazon. I bought one for myself, and one for my sister (who, I found out by accident when we were on the phone one day, had been trying to find the book, too!).James Flora's wonderfully detailed and very expressive pen & ink and pencil drawings bring this story to life for me, and the monochromatic blue spot coloring sets the spooky, midnight-hour tone beautifully. Every time I read "Grandpa's Ghost Stories" I find something new hidden in Flora's imaginative drawings. The author/illustrator's (seemingly) simple line work is a testament that children's book illustration doesn't have to be hi-tech in order to be highly effective and attention-grabbing.As for the story itself, this book truly is a must-have for anyone who loves good old-fashioned scary tales on a stormy night. The stories (which are really one story divided into different tales...kind of like small chapters) are intriguing enough to keep adults reading and innocent enough that children will love them and still be able to sleep. My third grade students and my nieces love the book as much as I do. In fact, it reads like a story a child might tell, with ghouls, ghosts, witches, skeletons, and a host of other creepy crawly characters that children will absolutely relish!

Still good!
This book freaked me out as a kid. Had been looking for it for years and finally found it! Still great!

Best kids scary story
Like a lot of people I bought this book to replace my original paperback that was falling apart. Great story and awesome illustrations. My 2yo wants to read this every night. He loves "witches hat" the most. There is one typo that bugs me a bit you can see in my screenshot. Other than that it's perfect.

My children are now 42 and 46. This was their favourite book when they were young.I read it to them every night. I now have purchased it for my friend's grandchildren. They love it, too! It is a fun book to read to children.

Son’s favorite book and now grandson’s too!
I have an original paperback of this book that my son loved to read over 40 years ago. It is in tattered condition, but Now my grandson has his own copy and wants grandpa to read it to him over and over.

One of my favorite childhood books
I loved this book when I was a kid and was very excited to find a new copy. Well worth the money. My only regret is not finding a copy years ago when my children were young enough to enjoy it too.

Childhood favorite
I used to check this book out at my local library all the time as a kid; I loved the detailed illustrations and the unique spooky story. I've been wanting to purchase a copy as an adult, but only ever found very expensive used copies online, so I was thrilled to see that they've reprinted this James Flora classic. My one complaint about this reprint is the giant review slapped on the front cover directly under the title: ugly and unnecessary.
