Fun toy
Just like the one we had at school. A kid (possibly a young steve-o), messin about, deliberately hammered a tack through his finger and it was confiscated after that. However unless you have a child that has a over active curiosity for pain, this can be a really fun toy. A toddler could try with supervision, as just hammering the wood pieces down anywhere on the board with no pattern can be a satisfying, therapeutic exercise. But the tacks are tiny and very fiddly. I bought the larger one with 100 wooden pieces but it only came with 50 tacks, will definitely need more of those for back up.

We love this!
My 4 year old son got this from Santa and he loves it! We like for Santa to give quality toys, that may cost a bit more, but will stand the test of time. Santa does a great deal of research and really feels like he got his money worth with this toy!It is guaranteed to keep my very busy, tactile boy happily occupied, while developing his fine motor skills. His brothers and sisters love this toy also!It is a toy I keep 'up', as the nails are little and we have a new 'crawler' in the house. The kids love the freedom to create whatever they want, marveling at how different their creation is from their siblings'. This is an awesome open-ended toy that can span many ages and both genders. I highly recommend it!

Awesome, I love it
Awesome, I love it! We bought this for a four-year-old who really loves it. Initially you may be surprised at the smallness of the pieces, but it allows you to create cool patterns and shapes. Larger and/or thicker pieces wouldn't be ideal for the board, scale, or size of nails. She loves that she gets to use a real hammer, its great practice for fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. She feels like such a big kid and gets to be creative, too. Highly recommend. I think we'll be using this toy for a long time.

Great toy
This was a gift for a 6 year old girl. She has spent hours hammering away. It's sturdy enough but a few of the wooden pieces have split. Would definitely buy again though.

I purchased this for my 3.5 year old granddaughter...she loves it. She can play with this toy with little supervision. It builds great eye-to-hand coordination plus allows her mind to construct different shapes. It works great. The only issue I have is keeping track of all the tiny nails. I purchased a magnet strip...it has helped.

Not as good as the original.
This is based on a wonderful classic version but it is not the same. For one, the pieces are not wood but thick plastic. Two, the hammer is larger and not as ergo for small hands. It's also not compatible with other versions. I bought this same toy a few years ago, and then bought this second set to get more of the little nails. But the nails and pieces are different sizes and thus not interchangeable.I do love the toy, but if you're expecting the same version in natural materials that you may have played with as a child, you'll be disappointed.

Good fun even for a two year old
Pretty cool! My 2 year 3 month old was able to pick up the little nails, place them, and pound them in by himself. I like the variety of wooden shapes. The idea page was cool. I showed him that after demonstrating how to attach the shapes and letting him free play for a while. I used a little dish to hold the nails and kept the cork board in the bottom of the box. I just poured the shapes around the edge of the board and that seemed to work well. I think this activity will grow with him over time!

Great activity for school-age OT
I am an occupational therapist who works with elementary school age children and I use this set several times a week. I have made a series of photos for the various designs (rather than using the small designs that came with the set.) My students love using a hammer and “real” nails. It’s a great activity.
