Takes off the blinders
This is an important read for horse owners. It can be harsh at times, but worth reading to add to your knowledge of what is involved in controlling a horse to perform in sports that he/she might not choose to do - if given a choice.I appreciate the truth, even if it means I may have to change my mind about some preconceived ideas I have had.

Disturbing
This pointed out many disturbing things that riders do everyday. While knowing the negative is in itself valuable there was not a great deal of constructive alternatives.

Spend your money on a bitless bridle, rather than this book.
Yes, bits can inflict great pain and injury, and yes, many horsemen mistreat their horses much of the time, sometimes without realizing it. This should have been a great book, because horses need to have their side represented. But the writing is just a disorganized rant, and the "science" stuffed in the back doesn't add any credibility to this. Robert Cook's "Metal in the Mouth" is calmer, and more convincing.

Who said this was fun?
Proof of the horrors we thrust on horses in the name of competition....its the humans who are competeing...the horses don't care. You will never look at a horse show or rodeo with the same eyes again.

Great research and pictures.
Another great book with detailed scientific proof of what horses endure with the desire of humans. Be ready to change your own approach with horses and know why you did.

Beauty and the Beast
A well written account of the horrors that horses are required to endure to satisfy both the ego and the pockets of their human caregivers. The philosopher Li Fu Tuan's book, 'Dominance and Affection: The making of pets' began an exploration of the lengths that we humans will go to satisfy our desire to dominate those creatures that we profess to 'love' This book takes this exploration several stages further, and reveals the suffering caused to a noble, gentle animal as a result of our attempts to dominate this intelligent being who would willingly do our bidding, if only we 'knew' how to ask correctly and politely. The suffering that is revealed in the pages of this book, is quite literally sickening. Furthermore, it reveals the'cover up' in place to ensure that the status quo continues; that people continue to get away with inflicting horrific suffering in the dressage arenas, in the show jumping ring, on the race track and so on. I cannot think of a better book to increase moral awareness of the groups of people who continue to think it is OK to dominate another creature to the extent that such suffering is caused. This book made me feel ashamed- ahamed to be human but also ashamed of the role that I might have played in causing my horses pain, but at least now I am more aware of the damage I can do by blindly following traditional conventions, this book contributed to that awareness. A big thank you to Alexander and Lydia Nevzorov for that. This book needs to be out there and read by everyone who comes within five feet of a horse! A reality check every horse owner needs
Its a painful and heartrending read, but a much needed reality check for anyone involved with horses. It certainly changed my perspective and my horses have a better life because of it. So put your ego and agendas aside and start seeing the reality of our horses lives.

A dark preview behind the mask of equestrian sports...
Provided with well researched and proven evidence, this book shows exactly what the horses today are screaming at us. Hopefully those who read this will keep a open mind and use this knowledge to treat horses with the proper respect they have always deserved; rather than carry on ignorantly or in denial. Beautifully written, explained and proven. So what are you waiting for? Stop reading this and go buy it! :-)

Two Stars
Thought provoking but lacking sufficient supporting evidence and too subjective and emotional.

Equestrian Sport Secret of the " Art"
