PRODUCT IS GREAT. DOGGY LOVES IT!!
At the bottom of this review I promised an update if my bestest buddy changes his mind about it. Boy did he change his mind!!! He eats about three bowls of this every day and asks for more. His coat looks great, his stools are healthy and he is loaded with puppy-like energy (he's almost eight years old)!!!As for the arthritis diagnosis below? Well, my trusted doctor missed this call. Nikko actually has an ACL injury and we are treating that in a completely different manner. He is however, making great progress to which I must give some credit to the nutritional superiority of Premium Edge Dog Food.****************FORMER REVIEW:OK, with the above title said, I'll qualify the statement in defense of Premium Edge dog food. It seems like something he should love but he is a very spoiled Malamute Husky who has recently been diagnosed with arthritis. Because of that, I have given him every kind of fresh fish and meat I can to get him to swallow his medicine. Now he thinks he should have chicken cordon blue or baked salmon for every meal or he turns up his nose at it.He also has developed a taste for the grocery store dog food that he seems to love (not a good thing).I'm going to keep trying to get him to switch foods because I know in my heart that this dog food is better for him than the one he currently prefers.I will definitely come back and update my review when he starts eating this brand.ThanksAU//(~_~)\\

Salmon food causes gas in my Lab.
Like all Premium Edge products, the dogs really like it. I've used the weight loss (wonderful product) and the weight control (also very good) but on the weight control I've noticed my small dogs scratching and finally decided they may have dry skin due to the low calorie dog food not having enough fats in it. I've used the Salmon once before and they liked it. So, I'll put the little dogs on this and see if their skin stops itching. LATER: UNFORTUNATELY I have been forced to the conclusion that the Salmon dog food causes gas in my Lab. I finally took him off the Salmon food and the gas got better. Still there but didn't smell as bad. So, I'm buying the lamb for him and will give the Salmon to my small dogs. LATER: After having it called to my attention, I see now that some of the Premium Edge Dry Dog Foods contain meniodione sodium bisulfate which apparently has been proven to be damaging to major organs. What is so odd is that the weight loss formula and the weight control formula do not seem to contain this. It is also found in some of the Rachael Ray products. I've been researching zealously recently and I am going to switch to another high quality dog food that does not contain the meniodione sodium bisulfate which is a synthetic vitaminK and contains no grains. The other big question is "Are there grains hidden somewhere in these ingredients". MORE RESEARCH - Well, I've discovered what Barley and Millet are anyway. They are both GRAINS which I assumed but didn't know for sure. Barley is actually recycled after beer is made then put into dog food. I still appreciate what Premium Edge did to take the weight off my Lab but I am telling you that on the No Grain food the Lab's stool's are l/3 to l/2 their previous size. So, even on premium foods there is apparently a lot of filler going through our dogs. I can't believe I've had to do all this research just to find a decent food. I can tell you one thing. The best premium dog food with no grains and no meniodione sodium bisulfate I've found is Walmart Pure Balance. Check it out. WEEKS LATER: Well, I'll add to this again. The Walmart Pure Balance food also caused gas. I researched more to find a beef based food in the hope that it might be what my Lab needs. I FINALLY FOUND A FOOD THAT DOES NOT CAUSE GAS. It is Merrick Beef,Barley and Carrot formula. Not cheap at 50.00 for 30 lbs but it contains glucosamine and chondroitin AND prebiotics and probiotics, 30% protein. Since I put my Lab on this and put a scoop of yogurt on his food every couple of days he has had absolutely no gas. I don't have to give him Beano anymore either.

Great value product that is full of protein
We recently started eating more healthy in our household. We switched to pasture raised chickens and eggs with no antibiotics, no corn feed, no hormones. We also switched to pasture raised beef and hogs. Once again, no hormones, no antibiotics, and no corn feed. What a difference in ease of weight control. Not to mention a lot healthier all the way around. So, it did not take us long to decide to provide a better dog food for our two blue ticked beagles. Since we can not insure that the beef or chickens used in dog food are of the same quality as what we eat, salmon and potatoes are a better choice. Our female has lost 5 pounds from a hefty 40 lbs to 35lbs and has leveled out beautifully. The male has lost 8 pounds and has also leveled out to the vets praise. She was impressed with their progress at 9 years old. My geriatric children love the taste and no longer hesitate around the food bowl. The internet is a wonderful thing and I am so glad we found Premium Edge. It is a high quality dry dog food that is reasonably priced. You can pay more, but you return on investment will be marginal. We have started topping it off with Dogswell canned dog food just to add an extra bit of flavor and our dogs have never been happier.
