Conrad the sailor
An interesting and informative book detailing Joseph Conrad's career as a sailor. It probably tells us as much as we are ever likely to know about Conrad's maritime adventures and his rise from ordinary seaman to sailing ship's captain. As an admirer of Conrad's fiction, the book held my interest from first to last and broadened my understanding of Conrad's relationship with the sea and its place in his novels and stories. The book also features some nice paintings of all Conrad's ships (in colour). Peter Villiers is to be congratulated for rescuing his father's work and knocking it into publishable shape for us all to enjoy.
