How does this compare to Soniccare 4100 series and 6100 series?

I haven’t used either , but I find this to be comparable any high quality electric toothbrush. I had some issues abd my dentist wanted me to get a sonic brush. This has eliminated extra plaque , has a sensor to ensure too don’t push too hard, has different modes, comes with a great case and extra brushes. It’s a great investment!

Do replacement brushes have protective caps?

Yes! There is a replacement set of 8 and each have the caps included. We love ours!
