UK two CD collection from the Scottish rockers spanning their entire career from their 1983 debut to their final album in 1999. Big Country's anthemic and distinctive Folk-influenced Rock delivered three top 3 albums in the 1980s and a massive selling Greatest Hits in 1990. This amazing double disc set features all their hits plus a few previously unreleased BBC performances. Spectrum.

Good for the money but some lackluster picks
I'm a very big fan of this most excellent band and am always happy to spend a couple of bucks on their releases but I have to say the song selections could have been better.Pros - quality sounds good for the most part and a nice piano version of ShipsCons - some duds for songs (in my opinion) such as Angle Park and Porroh Man liveCons - why do they always dismiss The Buffalo Skinners album which in my opinion is their heaviest hitting and powerful album. Live version of Ships and a bonus track of Never Take Your Place are NOT the highlights of the Buffalo Skinners album - Alone, We're Not in Kansas, What You're Working For, The One That I love.....that's the good stuff.

FINALLY a really great BC collection with GREAT SOUND!
I have sought out and bought almost everything this band has ever released. I admit it. But I still need this 2-CD set. Why?Many of their albums had been re-issued, remastered, what have you and I've picked them all up. But one thing was still missing, despite the efforts of the engineers to re-capture the magic: great sound. Well with this collection, FINALLY I can really listen to some of their key songs LOUD on CD and feel the full impact of the songs' intended sound range. This is like a dream come true, in ways. Deep album tracks (at least to us stateside) Tall Ships Go, Eiledon, Chance (what a masterpiece), Restless Natives (first time my ears have heard this one, actually), Ships (again I say: masterpiece), East Of Eden, Steeltown (yeah!), Where the Rose Is Sown, The Teacher, Angle Park, 1000 Stars--all "come up screaming" at you like never before.A smokin' live version of You Dreamer (the original from 1995's Why the Long Face ) is included here and other great live versions that showcase the band's musicianship (Porrohman from a 2000 show rocks as hard as anything). Crossing  is about to be re-issued yet again, with the well-deserved Deluxe Edition treatment. Hopefully this is a sign that maybe, though not likely, the rest of their 80s albums may re-emerge as well. But for now, this collection can be a primer for me.These guys were so unique and so cool, especially in the early years. In their later years sure they really just fell back into what we now see as Eighties Rock, but they did it better than anyone else. Highly recommended for longtime fans or music lovers looking for a place to start on BC's body of work.

Finally a Great Comp For a Great Band.
Big Country's 1983 Debut The Crossing Became a Slight Hit In the U.S. Spawning the Hits In a Big Country and Fields of Fire. Unfortunately, the group was barely Heard from again In the U.S. A Shame and a Bummer. Growing up in a small town It was hard for me to find the albums. I managed too but man the effort. Although a few Compilations were Issued they Just missed the Mark. Finally a Compilation worthy of this band. The Two Disc set Covers all the Hits and adds a few Unreleased tracks as well. Sonically It is easily the Best Sounding Release for the Group, especially songs from The Steeltown album that always sounded pretty bad. 35 Tracks of Simply Great Music, Great Linear Notes and Much Improved Sound. Highly Recommended .

I love Big Country's first album and I figured I might ...
I love Big Country's first album and I figured I might like more of their later music if I was getting the best of it. A lot of reviews talk about the album "Driving to Damascus" like it is a lost masterpiece. Well it's very expensive so I thought that at least I would get a few tracks from that album to listen to. Stuart's decision to sing like he's American is not just distracting it's horrible. Overall this collection really isn't that fun to listen to. I would prefer just to have the remastered "The Crossing" and just be content that that is this bands high water mark.

Review of Fields of Fire - Big Country
Look, I grew up on 80s music and Big Country was one of the bands I used to listen too on radio and record on cassette tape.If you're into authentic music then this is 1 of the bands you need to listen too, as Big Country mix a lot of Scottish sounds into their music. From rock ballads such as "Peace in our time" (so appropriate) to "In a big country", there are songs that will appeal to you and spark memories from some part of your life!

another disappointment
Too shiny, shimmery and total disappointment after once again containing edited shorter version of "In a Big Country" lacking the awesome drumming and longer opening . Bummer

Rubbish collection of a brilliant band
I love Big Country and have their early albums on vinyl. I wanted a greatest hits cd for my car. This cd is awful! It's so over produced and loses the raw quality this band has. All the tracks are a collection chosen by some a producer, not a greatest hits or singles collection. I should have read the track listing.

Brrilliant selection of the very underrated Big Country
When Stewart Adamson formed this band in the early 80's I thought at one stage they would surpass U2 who had also formed around that time with a similar bag-pipe sounding guitar sound. I 've always liked them and will continue liking them while U2 have not stood the test of time( the last album I got b7y them was The Passengers with Brian Eno). And! guess what Big Country is still playing sans the sadly deceased Stewart. Excellent compilation double cd of all their hits. Highly recommended. George Fazakas

Great value greatest hits package
The content is purely down to personal taste, which I won't bore you with; however the format of the CD is very good. Double CD, 30 tracks of greatest hits, not loaded with inferior live recordings to bulk up, and cracking value at around six quid new.
