Bullying Prevention & Every Month Read!
Bullying prevention is huge topic to tackle in elementary school year round, and not just in October during Bullying Prevention Month. Bully B.E.A.N.S. is a book that follows Mean Maxine and that impact that she has on students around her. It addresses the importance of empathy, being an upstander, and using "magic" jelly beans to give them current to stand up and speak up so Bullies Everywhere Are Now Stopped. The end of the book gives some great tips for students if they are bullied, if they witness bullying, or if they think they may be the bully themselves.

Great tools for kids who are bullied, bystanders who want to help, and even bullies themselves
This book is a must-have! There is a lot of empathy throughout for everyone involved in a bullying situation. The suggestions for how kids can respond are practical and even somewhat fun. A fantastic book to get the conversation started with your child or class!

A good book about bullying for children
Bully B.E.A.N.S. tackles the subject of bullying for children. It has experiences that children would really come across at school and speaks to them about finding ways to be strong and have courage. The book also talks about empathy for other people, which I felt was so important in this book. It is something we are currently talking about with our children and this book was a nice way to add to that topic. The end of the book even has some information about handling children that bully, which I loved. Overall, this was a good book, and I would recommend for any children in pre-k through 3rd grade.Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, National Center of Youth Issues for providing this book to me in exchange for my honest opinion.

THIS BOOK SHOULD BE IN EVERY CLASSROOM!!!!
I love Julia Cook's books! The thing I love the most about her books is that they always give a strategy or a specific tip that will help a student actively solve a problem. For example, in the book Bully B.E.A.N.S., there is a student named Maxine who is bullying many of her classmates. The main character proceeds to talk to her mother about Maxine's behavior. Her mother gives her applicable strategies to address the bullying "head on" with Maxine as well as what to do if she observes someone else being bullied. The story is told in a light hearted and relatable manner.Another great book by Julia Cook that addresses an every day issue in classrooms today. This is a must have for any classroom and or any counseling office.
